Chapter 17 The Past Haunts Me

Ash's POV
{Day One}

I searched EVERYWHERE for that stupid jewel! I searched in my dad's study, his room, everywhere he's been I've searched! I huffed in frustration and sat down on my bed with my head in my hand.

Nikki would know what to say, the more I thought about her the more I wanted to find her. I jumped off my bed and walking outside in the back yard.

My dad always played with us on our swing set pushing us back and forth. I shook the memory away and searched around there. I walked up the ladder to our treehouse and just sat looking around the small room.

I remember all the summers Nikki, Logan, Felix and I spent up here. We were so happy, I was actually happy!

**Flashback**

"Come on Sarah!" I whined tugging on Sarah's arm to get her to climb the tree house.

"No Ash," she said walking back to the house.

"Please Sarah!" I said standing in front of her. I gave my best puppy eyes I could manage.

She bite her lip and huffed in frustration, "fine!" She said.

"Yay!" I ran and hugged her, "let's go, let's go, let's go!"

"Go ahead of me. I'll be right behind you," she said pushing me away from her.

"Promise?" I said looking up at her.

She smiled at me and kneeled down so are faces were equal, "I promise,"

**End Of Flashback**

I felt a tear run down my face. I quickly wiped it away and held my face with my hands. I was hyperventilating. How am I going to find that stone? How am I going to get Nikki?! This is all my fault!

"Ash?" He heard a voice from below the tree house. I peeked over the edge and saw Logan standing there, "can I come up?" He asked.

I nodded my head at him. I moved out of the way when you finally got up. He sat across from me and looked around the treehouse.

"So many memories in this treehouse," Logan said finally looking at me

"Yeah tell me about it," I said shaking my head and laughing at him.

"Do remember when you pushed Nikki down the ladder just so you could be the first one up here?"

I shook my head in laughter, "yeah I do. I also remember you beating me up after wards as well,"

"Aww, memories," Logan said shaking his head, "do you remember when your dad buried a box at the base of this tree?"

My head instantly snapped up, I looked up at him in shock, "he did what?"

"Look," Logan said climbing out of the treehouse I followed close behind him. He kneeled down at the base of the tree, "right here I think is where I saw him bury it,"

"Your a bloody genius Logan!" I yelled bending down and moving the dirt out of the way

"You flatter me Ash," Logan said rolling his eyes. He helped me move the dirt out of the way. I saw a corner of a little box and I was so close to to bursting with joy!

I grabbed the box and set it down on my lap. All I did was stare at it. I couldn't believe I found it. I mean Logan found it!

"Are you going to open it or are you just going to stare at it?!" Logan said sounding impatient.

I ignored him and slowly opened the box. I looked in and saw it. The jewel. I quickly closed the lid and stood up. Logan looked at me with confusion, "come on," I said. I ran into the house finding Nikki's parents sitting int the kitchen.

"I found it!" I yelled. Everybody looked at me with grief ad worry in their eyes, "what?" I asked. Nikki's mom, Jamie, walked over to me and grabbed my hand leading me into the living room. I sat down on the couch and she sat next to me.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Ash it's about your mom," she said grabbing my hand, "she didn't make it,"

I froze. Wait-what! I could feel the tears burning my eyes. I let go over her hand and covered my face with my hands. I couldn't breath. I felt like my whole life is slowly crumbling down. Piece by piece.

"We're so sorry Ash," She said standing up and walking out of the room.

I sat there alone. I felt a presence come into the room and I slowly looked up from the ground and saw Felix standing in to door way. I stood up and ran to him.

"I'm so sorry Ash," he said as he wrapped his arms around me for a hug, "for everything,"

"I can't breathe-," I said. Felix pulled back in alarm. He was looking at me with grave concern, "I feel like my whole life exploded," I said. I sat down on the couch and Felix kneeled down in front of me.

"I don't have anyone left Felix," I said looking up at him, "I've lost Sarah, my dad, which is totally fine by me, and my mom! I'M ALL ALONE FELIX!" I yelled.

"No, Ash. You are not alone, you have Me, Logan, Gwen, Charlie, and especially Nikki. We love you so much so you will never be alone," Felix said.

"Thanks Felix. I'm sorry I bit you...and pulled your hair....and punched you in the face," I said looking at the ground

"Okay your forgiven, no need to quote Disney just for me," Felix said ruffling my hair. I pushed his hand away

"Don't mess with the hair!" I snapped at him I bit my lip trying to stop myself form smiling

"Why would I do that?" Felix asked messing with my hair again I pushed his hand away. Again.

"Because I'm fabulous!" I said touching my hair trying to fix it.

Felix laughed at me and stood up, "okay, Dylan O'Brien stand up and let's go get our girl," he said holding his hand out. I grabbed it and hoisted myself up.

"Shes MY girl," I said walking out of the room with Felix laughing behind me. I have what I need, now it's time to put my plan into action.
