Chapter Eighteen
Unpleasant Memories
┗━━━━━°❀•°:🌸:°•❀°━━━━━┛

❝What can I say? I'm dramatic.❞

YOU AND MK WENT into another broken memory of Wukong's. This time it was during his training in the Temple of the Tilted Moon and Three Stars. You and Mk saw Wukong doing some tricks.

Mk gawked and squealed, "Oh, Monkey King was so cute and cheeky! I don't get it! I don't get how he ever made anyone mad or got so many enemies. He's just so—" He said while clasping his hands together. You sighed deeply at his naivety, "This is like Chapter 1, kid. Again, really gotta read the book." You told him before another crack appeared. You two stepped in and were taken back to Flower Fruit Mountain beach.

You could see your past self sitting under a tree and wrapping a bandage around her arm. You could recall this memory so well, it was right before he confessed to you. Just then, Wukong appeared right beside her, "Y/N! You okay, Peaches?!" Wukong asked, handing your past self a peach.

Mk laughed loudly at the nickname, "Peaches?!" He exclaimed and looked at you, where one of the monkeys drew the corners of your mouth into a forced smile. You two turned to continue watching the memory.

"Welcome back, your majesty." Your past self mocked.

Wukong was being all lazy like usual, "Aah, don't be like that! Eat some fruit, soak up the sun! That's why I've been training so hard. really bothered by your attitude." He replied and then took a bite from his peach.

"What, so you can be the strongest?"

"No! Well, maybe a little bit, but that's not the point! It's so we don't have to worry about anything or anyone ever again! Just live a lazy life, sittin' in the sun, eatin' fruit, and doing whatever we want. Sounds pretty good, huh? Huh? Huh?"

Wukong pulled you in a hug and the two of you shared a laugh, "Quit it! Eat your dang peach."

"You're a peach."

Mk had a sad look on his face as he watched how you and Wukong were happy together, "Why didn't he just stop right here? He was already so much stronger than anyone ever needed to be." He pointed out and then he looked back at you.

"Wukong didn't think so. He always felt he had to be stronger. More immortal. He was so terrified of mortality, he went so far as to take his name out of the Book of the Dead. But even that wasn't enough."
