"How is your training going?" Toshinori asked Inasa.
He already knew the answer. He got reports every day and he participated as much as he could, but it was nice to hear from Inasa himself.
Inasa grinned at him. "I finally figured out how to detect Snipe," he said.
"You have?" That was actually news to him.
Inasa had been participating in training where he was fighting in simulations against the teachers. There were a few others also training the same way. Mirio was coming along well, as were Nejire and Tamaki. And Bakugou and Kirishima had extra combat classes.
Bakugou was an absolute natural at hand-to-hand combat. And so long as he controlled his aggression, he did well. Kirishima was a little more restrained, but they were both progressing, without their quirks. Not that Yagi had any regrets with his choice. Bakugou was still too aggressive. He rushed in and while Toshinori was not privy to Hound Dog's therapy session, he couldn't help but feel that Bakugou was covering for something.
"It's not pretty," Inasa told him, "but I can sort of make a really, really low-level whirlwind around me and that lets me detect things coming at me."
All Might noded at the explanation. "That would detect more than Snipe though?"
"It does," Inasa agreed. "But most of the time I already know people are there. This is for really fast-moving things."
"Ah, like bullets. But can you get out of the way?"
At the question, Inasa made a face and Toshinori had his answer.
"Not all the time," Inasa admitted.
"Even so," All Might said. The very idea of making a detection system with his quirk was a new application of it that Yagi was sure Inasa would not have thought about normally. His training sessions were designed to stretch him.
That was the entire point of hero training, for everyone but Inasa was being stretched further, and faster than most.
"I'll get there," Inasa agreed before his expression clouded. "I heard about what happened with Shouto," he said softly.
All Might sighed. He'd heard as well. Thankfully not many other people had heard, and it was probable reporting on the incident could be contained. "Who told you?" Toshinori asked.
"Shouto," Inasa told him, well aware that it was not the answer All Might would be expecting.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Yagi asked.
"I thought you might."
He did. He really, really did but he did not want to read too much into the incident. Toshinori sighed. "I don't know what it means," he told Inasa.
The young man nodded.
"So, I don't want to say something, and have it be wrong," Yagi continued.
"How can it be wrong if it's what you think?" Inasa challenged.
All Might felt himself smile but he couldn't be distracted. "I've been telling you about how I hunted All For One but with those stories I've been able to show you cause and effect. I've mentioned how I speculated wildly at times but was often wrong and tell you how I was wrong because I knew. This time-" he shook his head. He could speculate but he didn't know what would be right or wrong and he didn't want to emphasise something that would ultimately be incorrect.
It wasn't that he was afraid of failure. It really was that he didn't want to close avenues of thought in Inasa's mind when they might be needed.
"How about we speculate together?" Inasa offered. "I'm fully aware that you don't know. There's only one person who definitely knows why things happened but if we can work out what we think is the reason then we might be able to see other opportunities."
