Chapter 24: Men, Right?

-A Week Later-

3rd Person POV
10:00AM

Ever since Melodie found out she was pregnant her whole view on motherhood changed and she couldn't wait to finally meet her child. She did go tot the doctors the day after she took the test, where she found out she was 3 months pregnant. She was so excited and was even more excited now because she was finally going to see her baby. She still hasn't told Denzel yet but she was going to after she gets the ultrasound. As she waited patiently for her doctor to come back. Cookie and Shardae came back in the room giving her the bottle of water and chips she asked for, not long after that her doctor came back in with the pictures "Congratulations Ms. Lyon you're having a girl." She said smiling and handing Melodie the picture. Melodie looked at the picture and smiled trying not to cry Cookie looked at her and smiled she is going to be a wonderful mother. Shardae got up and hugged her "Oh my god she so precious." She said wiping her own tears. "Do you a name for her?" Cookie asked Melodie thought for a moment "I was thinking Lorelei Loretha Lyon." She said, Cookie smiled as she herself started crying she gave Melodie a hug "That's beautiful baby." She said wiping her tears. Melodie looked at them and chuckled she was pregnant and here they were sobbing like they were having the baby. While they were all talking Shardae's phone began to ring she looked at the screen and seen that it was jasmine, she answered: "Hey bitch where you been at? I ain't seen you in three weeks. You ain't been returning my calls, I pulled up to yo house and ain't get no answer. What's going on are you ok? Wait wait slow down he did what!?!....Where are you?......Ok I'm on my way I'll be there in a hour. Ok." She hung up and sighed rubbing her temple as Melodie and cookie looked at her in confusion "What happened?" Melodie asked as Shardae sat down "Girl she been in the hospital for two weeks. Jason's been beating on her, He accused her of cheating and when she told him now he started hitting her and it wasn't until Vernon showed up and pulled him off her. She said he was arrested that night. She was hurt pretty bad she just now leaving the damn hospital. Ima go see her after we leave to make sure she okay." She informed them Melodie shook her head the fact that someone had to go through that was so sad and devastating. "Ok ima go wit you." She said standing up Cookie did as well and started grabbing her purse and jacket. They all made their way to the parking lot, got in the separate cars and left.

Same Day
9:00PM

As her driver pulled into her driveway Melodie started to feel more nervous than she already was. She started to think, if he didn't want the baby then that was fine she was still going to keep it, but at the same time she wanted him to be just as excited as she was. But given the way he was raised it he was more likely to not be happy on account of him not having a father in his life but she felt like just because he had a shitty father that don't mean that he as to be one. Her driver opening her door brought her out of her thoughts she stepped out the car and began walking to her front door, once she unlocked her door and closed it. Denzel hugged her tightly she giggled she was only gone for a couple of hours "Hey baby I missed you. How is she?" He asked letting her go she stood off her coat and began making her way to the living room "She's okay her scars healed up and the doctor said she don't need to take her pain medication anymore. I'm just glad that she's feeling better we're going over her house tomorrow night she said she wanna have a girls night." She told him he hummed "That's good baby but imma miss you." He confessed pouting she chuckled sitting down "Baby you always miss me." She said laughing, she wasn't lying though she could be going to take a shower and he'll join her saying how much he missed her. Come to think of it that's how she got pregnant. He chuckled and shrugged his shoulders as he continued looking at her, pouting because she was still laughing.

She looked at his face and stopped laughing. She got up grabbing his face "Aw I'm sorry for laughing at you baby. It's only for one night Ok? How about y'all have a boys night?" She asked he nodded "That's sounds like a good idea. We can invite some strippers and get drunk." He teased she rolled her eyes "Don't play wit me boy." She said sternly he laughed, she coffee and sat back down he joined her and grabbed her hand pulling in for a hug "I'm just playing baby." He said, she pulled back smiling "I know." She said he chuckled and kissed her. She figured now was a good time as any to time so once he pulled back she grabbed the ultrasound from her purse and gave it to him. He just stared at it "Baby is this foreal?" He asked she nodded he sighed putting his head in his hands. He wasn't ready to be a father he didn't even know how to be a damn father. As he continued thinking Melodie looked at him, he looked sad she knew he would have this reaction she put her hand on his shoulder "Denzel what's wrong baby?" She asked he looked at her and got up "Baby, I don't know how to say this but I'm not ready to be a father. I just think we're moving a little fast." He confessed she huffed and got up "Denzel be foreal, we've been together for three years and you moved in with me a year ago. So what's this really about?" She asked he groaned and began walking to the kitchen, he knew she was right he just felt like he shouldn't be having a kid. How could he be father?
