Taehyung held his breath as he opened the terrace door, peeking inside cautiously. And Jungkook was there, pacing back and forth restlessly, dragging his fingers through his raven hair.
Taehyung's grip on the door tightened before he stepped back and hid, pressing himself to the door. Seeing Jungkook after confession, felt... different. It wasn't supposed to feel different. It was just Jungkook. Just his Kookie. The same Jungkook who had always been by his side, who didn't complain when he dragged him to late-night ice creams and walks, who let Taehyung rest his head on his shoulder, who had laughed along with him when they did stupid things together, and more than anything, who let him be a kid, be himself, be the crazy kind every now and then.
His breath was uneven as he clutched the fabric of his sleeves. He needed to compose himself before he faced Jungkook and whatever was to come. "He took a deep breath and nodded to himself. "It's just Kookie." He muttered under his breath before he put on his usual smile. Just like always. Something he mastered, no matter what goes on with his life.
And before he could slow more doubts from creeping back in, he stepped onto the terrace. "Kookie!!"
Jungkook halted the moment he saw him, feeling his heart pump wildly under his chest as a burst of emotions flowed through him. And that smile on his face—that bright, easy, and familiar. It was as if nothing had changed. And hope surged in Jungkook's chest.
Had Taehyung realized it already? Had it taken him far less time than himself to understand and to accept the feelings.
Maybe it was not as complicated as Jungkook feared when he saw Taehyung's pale face before he rushed out of the university. Since then, his heart had been hammering in his chest, drowning in doubts and uncertainties.
After a few hours, he couldn't take it anymore. He started calling Taehyung, desperately wanting to hear him, and every single call went unanswered, then it was switched off. At least Taehyung hadn't blocked him. His body was exhausted, but he couldn't sleep, replaying the moment over and over again.
And finally, like the universe (Taehyung) showed him mercy, his phone buzzed in the middle of the night. He almost dropped the phone in haste to read it. After he did, he clung to it—that meant Taehyung wasn't ignoring him, he was willing to talk.
Now, here they were, standing on the terrace that witnessed their conversations and laughs. Taehyung stepped toward him, and relief crashed over him, seeing that smile.
"Hi, Kookie!!" Taehyung said, patting his arm for a brief second, but he looked around, and Jungkook could sense the awkwardness between them that never was. Although everything seemed normal from the outside, this proved it wasn't. He parted his lips to speak, to say something, but Taehyung beat him to it, getting straight to the point.
"Uh-- About yesterday..." Taehyung started, rubbing the back of his neck, eyes never settling on Jungkook for too long.
Jungkook held his breath, waiting for him to continue.
