Taehyung worked swiftly around the kitchen, his sleeves rolled up, and his eyes sparkled with quiet joy. He was cooking everything Jungkook loved.

Jungkook had been working nonstop since the day he promised Taehyung, and with just two days left until the race, it was even more hectic. He'd met with the team assigned by the company, and to Taehyung's surprise, Jungkook decided he'd be the one to drive. Just for this race.

It worried Taehyung, but he trusted Jungkook. He knew this wasn't permanent, so it gave him slight comfort. At the end of the day, Taehyung would support him no matter what choice Jungkook made. In short, it wasn't just Jungkook's car going to the race. It was Jungkook, too.

Taehyung stirred the soup gently, humming under his breath when his mother walked in and paused at the doorway with a soft smile. She watched him for a moment, noticing how lit he looked from within. It wasn't just the smile that was displayed on his face, but something serene in him.

"What's the occasion?" She asked, stepping closer, glancing at the food.

Taehyung looked at her with a wide grin, his cheeks flushed from the heat and sweat. "Jungkook's been working so hard. I just wanted to do something nice for him." He excitedly pointed at the dishes he had made, opening lids of everything. "Braised ribs, tofu, kimchi pancakes, seaweed soup...all his favorites."

There was a glint in his eyes, so bright, unguarded, and dull of something deeper whenever he spoke about Jungkook, and his mother saw it. She didn't say anything but just looked at her son for a couple of moments more.

"You look happy."

Taehyung nodded. "I am. I've never been this happy." Indeed, he was... because Jungkook was.

She stared at him with a slight frown before a sad smile flickered on her face. "Always be happy. When life is giving you chances to smile, don't overthink... one step at a time."

Taehyung paused his action, hearing the words he didn't know he needed until now. He took a deep breath and looked at her before giving her a stern nod. "I won't." He said, and he meant it.

.

Taehyung passed the heavy bag of containers with food to Jungkook's maid and went to look for Jungkook in the garage. He pushed the door open and was about to walk in, but he halted in his steps when he saw Jungkook.

Jungkook was crouched beside his car in his tank top, grease smudged all over his flexing arms, with a wrench in one hand, a look of fierce concentration on his face. He noticed Yugyeom and Eunwoo lingering in the corner, settled on bean bags, laughing and conversing in whispers so as not to disturb their friend.

Jungkook was immersed. He was so focused on what he was doing. Not caring about the sweat rolling down his temple and arms. His brows were furrowed, his lips pressed together in thought as he adjusted something beneath the hood.
