The silence lingered once Taeyong slammed the door behind him, his footsteps echoing down the hall. Taehyung exhaled, rubbing in temple, tired of everything. He brushed his brother’s words off, knowing it was just the heat and impulse, but it still stung.

And Jungkook… he knew how much it must’ve affected Taehyung, another reason to hate himself. He straightened his posture and took a deep breath. “I came here bec—I—I just wanted to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable, for pushing you, for all the calls, for showing up when you didn’t want me to. I thought---” He closed his eyes for a brief second, swallowing his words, and continued with another. “I didn’t mean to make things hard.”

Taehyung blinked, swallowing the lump in his throat, controlling himself from letting the tears out. He hated how Jungkook looked, but he had no one to blame but himself.

“I know you held back all these days because you didn’t want to lose my friendship, and I am sorry for letting my feelings get in the way, but not anymore. I don’t want to lose your friendship, too.” Jungkook smiled and took a step forward. “So, I am here asking you to forget what all happened and just go back to how things were. I swear. I’ll be what I was to you before.”

And for the first time in these few days, Taehyung felt his chest get lighter. This was what he wanted. They would go back to being friends, and whatever feeling Jungkook thought he had for Taehyung would fade.

Taehyung looked at him with full hope as he asked meekly, “Really? We can go back to how things were?”

Jungkook nodded. “Yes. I missed my best friend.”

“Me too,” Taehyung said and was about to hold Jungkook’s hand, but Jungkook moved away, pretending like he didn’t notice Taehyung trying to touch him. He didn’t know if he could keep up the façade if he felt him; it was already hard as it is.

“I’ll see you at the University tomorrow. Oh wait? Will you wake me up in the morning so we can go together?”

“Yes… I will!!”

“Good. See ya.”

.

“Jungkook… that’s enough…” Yugyeom said, trying to take the bottle of scotch from his hands. Jungkook shook his head, not letting him take it.

Yugyeom let out a sigh as he stared at the two empty bottles, another half-full beside Jungkook’s leg.

Jungkook sat slouched on the floor, his hair disheveled and his eyes red, not just from alcohol but from everything else that hurt. He watched as his friends hovered around him, looking at him with pity.
