That Bastard...

I.

“Honey, I’ve got good news!” A woman squealed.

She was Sharona Fortson, forty years old and a Broadway performer.

“Mom, let me guess…you’re marrying again for the fifth times.” A guy replied trying to be sarcastic but failed in doing so because he has a calm face. He was Dain Fortson, the son of Sharona, an ordinary salary man, twenty five years old, mild manner, and popular with younger girls.

“Sniff…don’t be harsh to your mother…and I feel it…he is the one…the right man for me…the love of my life…’til death do us  part…” Sharona’s usual monologue.

“Mom, I heard that before…sigh…yeah…yeah…I’ll give you my consent…when’s I gonna meet this guy?” Dain asked.

Sharona grimace, “I love you, son…oh you can meet him this evening…at our marriage ceremony…”

“What?! Marriage ceremony already?!”I haven’t met him and when did you meet this guy?”

“Oh…one of our performance…and he immediately propose to me…its love at first sight!” Sharona looked like a girl who’s daydreaming.

“Mom…I’ll bet this one will be you another failed marriage…” Dain was hopeless.

“Don’t talk nonsense, dear…because this will be the last marriage I will be into…” Sharona was hopeful.

“Whatever mom…whatever…sigh…”

Meanwhile,

“Son, I will marry a very nice woman…so I expect you not to be rude.” A rich guy talked to his son. He was Roberto Carter, fifty years old and owner of Carter Corporation.

“Yeah…you mean another slut who’s after your money…” the boy smug.

He was Rick Carter, fifteen years old, the legitimate son and heir of Roberto. He was a punk and troublemaker brat.

“Watch your mouth, young man!” Roberto was angry.

“Calm down…I won’t ruin your bastard precious wedding day…old man…” Rick sneered and walked out.

At the office where Dain work,

“Hey, Dainy…are you going to attend the president’s evening wedding?” Liza a co-worker who was in love to Dain said.

“I’m afraid…I can’t because it was my mother’s wedding too…” Dain was stressed.

“Oh, it must be tough for you to handle it…”

“Nah…as long as mother is fine then it will be okay to me…” Dain tried to liken the situation even though he didn’t.

6:00 P.M at Grand Plaza Hotel Lobby,

Dain was waiting when someone hit him.

“Ouch…hey…watch out…” Dain reacted. “Che…it’s your fault for being too small I can’t even see you…” a tall boy in disarray coat snubbed him then went off.

“Argh…brat…I’m 5’7…I’m not small…you just happen to be taller…” Dain was pissed.

“Sooooooon, there you are…meet my future husband and your future father…Roberto Carter…Roberto here’s my son Dain…” Sharona introduced her husband-to-be to Dain as well as her son to Roberto.

“P-president?!” “Huh?!” the two was puzzled. Then Roberto asked, “Lad, you looked familiar are you working at my company?” “Yes, Sir…and nice to meet you President Carter…” Dain was nervous.

“Ah…call me dad…and I remember now…you’re our best employee…” Roberto smiled. Dain’s face colored. He didn’t expect to hear that from the president.

The ceremony started.

Dain sat at the presidential table. Then he saw the brat from earlier, “So, that bastard was invited too…grr…”

After the formal ceremony, the guests were entertained by the newlywed. Dain was exhausted and approached his mother to let him leave but before he could say that Roberto came with the boy from earlier.

Roberto started to talk, “Dear and Dain, meet my son, Rick…” Rick handed his hand for handshake. Dain did the same for formality.

“Can I speak to my new brother…to know each other more…” Rick said looking so pleasant. Roberto had a relief finding that Rick seemed to like Dain as his step brother.

Rick led his step brother to a less crowded space.

Rick started to talk, “Look, don’t feel so comfortable with us…I don’t like you…and don’t even think that you can get money from us…you hear me!” he glared.

Dain was shocked but manage to butt in, “Look…here…you brat…we’re not some gold-digger…who needs your money…I’ve got a decent job…and could you try to be a bit respectful to older people…sheesh…stupid rich kid…”

Rick’s ear was stiffen after hearing that, “Grrr…old man don’t f*ck with me!” He grabbed the suit of Dain. A fight seemed to erupt, but the newlywed happened to come and asked the two to join the rest for celebration.

“You’re lucky but next time you tried to be a tough guy…I’m going to beat you…until you can’t even recognize you own face!” Rick whispered. Dain breathe heavily. “This is not what I’m expecting…” he sighed. He was used to be closed to his step brothers and sisters from his previous step fathers. Much worst, his plan of getting away from the party didn't work.

After an hour his step father talked to him.

Roberto persuaded Dain to stay at his mansion together with his mother. Dain was hesitant because he didn’t want to live with his step father’s bratty son.

“Thank you for the offer…but I am on the right age to live on my own…”

“What son, we always live together at your previous step father’s house before…and you never tried in living alone…” Sharona mediated.

“So…you don’t like me after all…” Roberto said looking so gloomy.

“No it’s not that…ah…eh…okay…I’ll stay…for a while…” Dain was trapped in. Then he saw Rick glaring at him.

“Heaven above have mercy on me…sheeesh…”
