Taha's pov
I sat still.
Everything Theodore said kept ringing in my ears like bells tolling for the dead.
She lost her child alone.
He brought women home when she was pregnant.
Rubab knew.
My world didn’t just shake.
It shattered.
I had called Shoaib my younger brother.
Held him through courtrooms and business wars.
Defended him when the world spat on his name.
I had trusted Rubab—with my house, my daughter, my soul, my sister.
And now?
Everything was dust in my hands.
Rubab stood beside me, holding Niyamat in one arm.
Bakhtiyar stood beside her, confused.
Shoaib hadn’t moved from the floor.
And Taniya… God.
Taniya had walked away like a woman carrying her own funeral.
I rose to my feet.
My voice was deathly calm.
“You knew, Rubab?”
She stiffened.
“Taha—”
“No. Answer me.”
“I didn’t know everything.”
“But you knew enough,” I said, stepping toward her.
“You hired a guard. You found her curled in the closet.
You knew. And you said nothing.”
Her eyes welled. She cradled Niyamat closer.
“I was trying to protect her.”
“No,” I snapped. “You were trying to protect this family’s name.”
“You let her rot in silence so no one would question us. So no one would ask, ‘What happened to the perfect Malik marriage?’”
She took a breath, eyes shimmering.
". I wanted to. I tried—”
“DON’T.” My voice cracked like a whip.
“Don’t lie now.”
Shoaib finally looked up.
His mouth was trembling.
“I didn’t mean for it to happen like that, ”
“You don’t get to talk,” I said, eyes like flame.
“You were supposed to guard her. She is your fucking wife,
Instead you turned her into something to own.
Into a cage bird.”
“I changed…”
“YOU DON’T GET TO REDEEM YOURSELF OVER HER RUINS!”
Rubab flinched. Her lip quivered.
“Taha, please. The kids are watching…”
“Good.”
I turned to her.
“Let them watch. Let Bakhtiyar know his mother loved power more than truth.
Let Niyamat hear what silence does to women.
Let every child in this house grow up knowing: if you protect a monster, you become one.”
And then—
A small gasp.
We all turned.
Dawood.
