A/n: this is Camila's dress
*Camila's POV*
I'm still pretty in shock. I can't believe I came out to my friends. That was as easy as it gets because they are so understanding but coming out to Tate and Ansel is gonna be a task. Tate is probably gonna be pissed that I stayed with him and Ansel is probably gonna go on about how "hot" it was that Lauren and I are lesbians because I'm sure he doesn't think that it's more than a kink. Coming out to my parents is gonna be the hardest. They are very traditional. They have always told me that marriage is between a man and a woman and I never really knew much else as I was growing up. Of course I watched tv and movies and got social media and found out that it's ok for guys to be with guys and girls to be with girls and realized that I strongly supported that lifestyle. I of course didn't realize that I was gay until I met Lauren. The worse they could do is disown me but I doubt that would happen. The least they could do is lecture me about how it's "not natural" and I'll "grow out of it" which I'm pretty sure is coming but I think I'm gonna wait until I absolutely have to tell them.
The girls and I purchase my dress and Ally, Dinah, and Normai say their goodbyes and make their way to Tate's party. Lauren and I stay back by my car.
"Wow. It's official." I say.
"Not quite yet" Lauren starts. "I want you to come to my house for dinner. And come out with me to my parents. I don't wanna stop now. I just wanna get it all over with you know" she says.
"Yeah. That sounds good." I say.
"Alright let me call them." Lauren says pulling her new phone out from her bag. She dials the number and presses speaker.
"Hey it's Lauren." She says
"Hey what's up?" Her mom says.
"Can Camila come over for dinner tonight?"
"Yes of course!"
"Ok we'll be home soon love you bye" Lauren rushes hanging up the phone.
"So what's the plan?" I say "are we gonna come out as soon as we get there or have them think we're friends until the end and drop the bomb? Any way is fine" I finish.
"We'll bring it up over dinner. It's not gonna be a big deal. They have always told me that they will support me no matter what." She says. Lucky.
"Ok." I say and lean over to kiss her cheek. "Lead the way" I get into the driver seat of my car and wait for her to get into hers and lead the way to her house. I've never been there before. I've only met her parents briefly in the hospital but I think they like me. I'm still really nervous. It doesn't seem right to just walk in and come out but it's gonna be weird having them think we are friends the whole dinner. I'm just gonna go with the flow like Lauren did when I came out to my friends.
-
We arrive at Lauren's house and she parks in front of me and gets out to meet me before we walk in.
"I'm kinda nervous" I say. Even though it's not, it feels like it's the first time I've came out. My friends were so supportive and Ally knew without me telling her but they barely know me.
"Hi Camila!" Lauren's mom rushes to open the door for us.
"Hi Mrs. Jauregui. Thanks for having me!" I say as politely as possible. It feels weird knowing that we are gonna drop a bomb that will change their life and they have no clue whatsoever.
"Sit sit" she says pulling a chair for me and one for Lauren. They are really hospitable.
She sets up dinner on the table and Lauren's dad enters the room.
There is a silence between me and Lauren. I wonder how she's gonna bring it up.
"So, Camila do you play any sports?" Her dad makes small talk as her mom sits across from him.
"Yeah I'm a competitive cheer leader"
He gives me a look before saying
"Oh that's nice!" I think he thinks cheerleading isn't really a sport...
"Mom... Dad... I- I mean we have something to tell you" Lauren rushes.
"What is it sweetie?" Her mom says.
Everything is about to change.
"Camila has been a good friend of mine for not too long but.... The thing is." She swallows hard "we are... A little more than friends" she says as she stares down at her plate waiting for a reaction.
"So you're trying to say... That you're lesbians?" Her mom says. Is she mad?
"Yeah" Lauren says.
"Ok." Her mom says and continues to eat.
"Is that all?" Lauren says.
"Yeah I mean you wouldn't have to take all this time to come out to us and bring home a boyfriend to dinner so why should it be any different with a girlfriend?" She says. I love her way of thinking. You can tell she's not from around here.
"What about you dad?" She says.
"As long as whoever you're with treats you right. Camila is definitely going to so it doesn't concern me."
"Thank you so much Mr. And Mrs. Jauregui. You have no clue what it means to have your support" I can't help but say. It's not gonna go over this well with my parents but I don't want to mention it.
"No problem, Camila. We knew from the day we met you that you would be a good friend to Lauren and the fact that you're more to her doesn't change anything"
Mrs. Jauregui says."Thanks guys" Lauren says as we continue our meal.
-
After we finish and say our goodbyes, Lauren walks me back to my car.
"When are you planning on telling your parents?" Lauren says."
"I'm not really sure. To be honest, I don't think I'll ever tell them" I blurt out.
"What? Why?" Lauren says
"Because they aren't as supportive as your parents" I say as I stare down at my feet.
"well just because they aren't all-"
"Look Lauren, They could throw me out of the house!" I say louder than I intended.
"I'm so sorry." she says.
"I am too." I say quietly "In a perfect world, being gay would be just as normal as being straight and kids wouldn't have to go through this coming out shít and just bring home who they love" I say.
"Unfortunately, It's not a perfect world. But whatever happens, I'll be here." Lauren says as she moves a piece of hair behind my ear.
All I can do is wrap my arms around her shoulders and bury my head in the crook of her neck.
It seems hugging makes up for the thousands of words that could've been said.
