Shikadai POV
It's just my luck that we get stuck checking out the Hidden Frost Village. In freezing temperatures no less, Inojin was shaking like a leaf and I can clearly hear ChoCho's teeth chattering in the background. We've been going door to door and no one has seen anything suspicious. I'm starting to think that this trip here has been nothing but a waste of time. I don't think I can even keep my mind on the task knowing what I saw back in the Hidden Leaf. Haruto had Sharigan eyes, there's no doubt about that.
The way they looked, there's no way it could be transferred Sharigans. If what I know about Kakashi's old Sharigan is correct, even Kakashi Hataki himself couldn't deactivate his Sharigan. Only those with Uchiha blood could pull off a trick like that. And last I checked, the Uchiha bloodline was almost completely wiped out to near extinction. Having only two surviving members, Sasuke Uchiha and Sarada Uchiha. Now that I was actually thinking about it, the twins ages, they were born somewhere around the time of the Fourth Great Shinobi War.
A war that both Lord Seventh and Sasuke Uchiha fought in, I thought the picture was clear before, but everything just keeps getting more blurry. It made sense at the time that Lord Seventh was a clear candidate to being the biological father to the twins. But the more information that seems to resurface, the more that Lord Seventh's involvement points to him not being the true biological father, rather. It seemed more likely now that Sasuke is the true biological father of the twins. But if that were true, why would Haruto act that way when Lord Seventh went missing. It wasn't adding up, there's gotta be something else I'm missing.
My mind went back to the pictures of Boruto and Sarada on their wall. It was clear from the start that they had some sort of connection to both Lord Seventh and Sasuke Uchiha. Something I overlooked at the time since Sasuke seems to get along with Lord Seventh. There was no reason to question why he was in that picture. The only conclusion I could come up with that partially made sense was that. Sasuke Uchiha is the biological father of the twins and Naruto Uzumaki is the adoptive father.
But even then, it didn't make sense, why would Lord Seventh need to adopt them. Even more, lie about their heritage and keep them a secret, they never kept Sarada a secret, so why. The only thing I could come up with was that Lord Seventh has been covering up the truth for Sasuke's sake. But what truth that is, I'm not sure anymore, the more I tried to make answers for myself. The more questions I'm left with, leading me to an endless cycle of making an answer for myself and finding another problem with that. It's like I'm missing an important part of key information, that if I could just figure it out.
Everything would just fall into place, speculating it any further would just be a waste of time. This whole mess is just one big drag, Lord Seventh is missing and there's still no sign of Mitsuki. I don't want to assume the worse but at least, I guess, this trip can't really get any worse as it is. Like the world wanted me to eat my words, that's when the screams started. We split off so we could cover more ground, so Inojin, ChoCho, and I rushed onto the scene as fast as we could. What we saw, I don't think any of us were prepared as Enko was unconscious with her arms uncovered.
While Doushu seemed to be completely unconscious as he was locked against a tree due to his own capture weapons. As Tsuru was thrown in our direction, ChoCho managed to catch her just in time. Her feet sliding back against the snow, whoever threw her, threw her with great force. That was the moment when a chill that I knew wasn't caused by the severe weather, went down my spine. Ibiki stood face to face with Urashiki himself, I had to think fast as time here was critical. "Inojin, send out a distress signal to all teams" I ordered as I readied for battle.
We need to hold out as long as possible until reinforcements arrive. I sighed, "this is such a drag" I muttered to myself as I knelt down into the snow. As Inojin sent out a distress signal that Denki made for us just in case of extreme emergencies. I flinched when I saw him, there he was, after all our searching. After being unsure whether or not he was still even alive. Mitsuki was merely a few yards away from us.
No wonder Ibiki hasn't made a move yet, Urashiki is using Mitsuki as a hostage so we can't do anything without risking his safety. Mitsuki's eyes looked hollow, there was a slight tremble to his stance. But it wasn't out of fear, I can tell that there was no fear behind those eyes, just exhaustion. The trembling of a weakened body, too fragile to fight back in such a state. I could only imagine the horrors Mitsuki had to go through to look so frail. Urashiki chuckled as he lifted his hand, revealing the chain that bound Mitsuki's wrists.
I looked over at ChoCho, who was still holding Tsuru but now upon closer observation, I realized that she was also completely knocked out. She was drained of all her chakra, the more this situation went on, the more I didn't like our odds. ChoCho set her down, leaning against a tree so she could have her hands free. The snow falling on us made it hard for me to use my shadow possession jutsu. Since the snow was obscuring the light, meaning I had no clear shadows to work with. I saw ChoCho glance over at me for a moment before charging ahead without warning.
Shit, despite knowing our slim odds, I ran after her to back her up. It looked like ChoCho's bold move caught even Urashiki off guard. As ChoCho enlarged her hands to take hold of him. Crushing him as he screamed but then suddenly smirked. Before anyone could process it, his hook pierced through ChoCho and then it made sense. As Urashiki disappeared from ChoCho's grasp.
Mitsuki was gone as well, no longer where he was before. "It's genjutsu" I muttered in realization but it was all too late as ChoCho fell into his trap. He used the situation to bait us in so he could extract chakra from us. Urashiki pulled his rod back as ChoCho fell unconscious as a considerable amount of her chakra was taken from her. Floating above while carrying Mitsuki's limp body, "while your chakra wasn't the one I was aiming for, I'll gladly take it either way" Urashiki stated as he immediately put the chakra into his gourd. "Now now, come here, little Nara..." Urashiki spoke with malice.
Knowing that I was his true target didn't make things better, if I'm the one he's after, then he must be after my shadow possession jutsu. If that's true, then I need to keep my distance. Ibiki stood between me and Urashiki while Inojin took care of ChoCho, making a giant colorful bird to ride on. Urashiki showed little to no interest towards Inojin like he could easily swat him like a fly if he wanted. "Don't be so gloomy, the show hasn't even started..." Urashiki stated. That's when I saw shadows in the distance, heading our way behind Urashiki, where he floated above.
Reinforcements had finally arrived and it seems that Urashiki has taken notice. "Kakashi Hataki..." was all Urashiki muttered as his smile turned into a frown upon his arrival. "Well, as much as I'd like to stay, I have a schedule to keep up....I'll see you in the land of lightning, it will truly be a sight to behold" Urashiki announced as a portal appeared behind him. Realizing what was happening, Inojin swooped in as fast as he could on his bird but it was too late. Urashiki went through the portal and took Mitsuki with him. When the portal disappeared and I looked over at the reinforcements, I don't think I was prepared to see the devastated look on Boruto'e face.
We had a chance to save Mitsuki and we blew it, he was right there but we let him slip through our fingers.
