"Trinity breakfast is ready."I say walking into her room to see her with her face in her pillow.I sit next to her and rub her back cuz I hear her crying.She turns to look at me and my heart breaks."He forced me..." "He raped you?"I ask and she pauses."He raped me..."She says and I just look at her."He was so aggressive and I told him to stop but he didn't and--and..."She stutters and starts crying and I pull her into a hug."I told you he knew!"She wails and I shush her."I know I'm sorry,its my fault."I say and she shakes her head."No he's a monster!I hate him and I want to leave!"She yells and I quiet her down a little.I haven't seen Chris all morning so there's a good chance he left, but just in case Ion want him hearing her say that.
"Look we're getting out of here we just have to be more careful."I say thinking."What if he hurts me again?" "I won't let it happen ok?"I say and she doesn't respond."Let's go eat Trinity."I say pulling her up with me but she draws back."I'm not hungry."She says falling back on the bed and I look at her concerned."Cmon you have to eat--" "I said no!"She yells at me annoyed and I'm surprised."Just leave me alone.."She curls up on the other side of the bed and starts crying.I sigh and leave.
As I'm eating I get a text from Chris.
Chris-I'm a be gone a week.
I don't answer and another one comes in.
Chris-look I'm sorry bout last night
I don't answer.A flood of texts start coming in
Chris-I was drunk...u know I love you
I'm sorry that I hurt you
Baby please answer
Imani what did I tell u bout not answering
Ion like being ignored Imani
If I call you better pick up
He calls and Ion pick up.Surprise surprise.He calls multiple times and sends multiple texts but I don't look at my phone for the rest of the day.This week might give us the chance to run.
1 week later
We didn't get to run...Chris' guys were everywhere,they wouldn't even let us leave the house.
Trinity has been in her room most of the time and hasn't been eating and I'm worried.She barely talks to me and I think she's depressed. Right now I'm laying beside her rubbing her back as she cries.She's been crying nonstop..."Trinity stop crying."I say looking at her but she doesn't stop.I sigh and freeze when I hear the front door open.Trinity must've heard it too cuz she stops crying and looks terrified."Imani!"We hear Chris yells and Trinity starts whimpering and shaking her head. "Calm down Trinity."I say but she runs to the closet and locks herself in.I'm a bout to run to the bathroom but he walks into the room.We look at each other and its silent,so I get up and try and walk past him but he grabs my wrist.I jerk back hitting my hand on the door.
"I'm sorry,I didn't mean to hurt you." He says and I avoid his eyes."Look at me Ni." "Stop calling me that.Its Imani not Ni."I say looking up but I immediately look back down."Ok..sorry..where's Trinity?"He asks and I hesitate."She's taking a shower...in my room."I lie and he steps closer to me."I was just in your room.That's my problem with you you're always lying to me."He says and I step back."And my problem with you is that you think I'm obligated to tell you the truth."I say and he looks mad but he calms himself down."Look this past week I've started getting help...that wasn't me Imani.I'm trying to change and I need your help."He says and I hear him choking back tears."That wasn't me--"He repeats and Trinity busts out the closest.
"Stop saying that!"She yells and he's surprised."Stop making excuses!" "Trinity.."He says moving closer to her and she jumps shielding herself so he stops."Stay away from me don't ever touch me again..."She says crying and I go over to her."I'm sorry..Tell her I'm sorry."He says to me and I shake my head."Chris just drop it."I lead Trinity to my room leaving Chris there.
After a couple hours I got Trinity to stop crying and talk to me.Chris left right after the whole thing and I'm glad.I can't even look at him...
"My parents raised me to wait until marriage."She says and I nod smoothing down her hair."Its not your fault Trinity." "If I would've never left India then this wouldn't have happened."She says sadly and I shake my head."Trinity you left India because of something good...its Chris' fault.He raped you,so don't blame yourself."I say and she looks at me then looks away without answering.
"What if I'm pregnant?"She asks and my heart stops.That's the last thing we need to happen,cuz if she is and Chris finds out..."Did he pull out?"I ask and she thinks back.She shakes her head."I begged him to and he slapped me."I instantly get angry again."Look if you're pregnant, I promise I won't let him hurt you.Before he'll notice that you are we'll be gone."
