-3rd POV-
"The problem is that for Leona, it's not sneaking snacks. It's reforming a whole nation." Idia said.
"And he abdicated all responsibility when things didn't work out as planned. That's the worst possible thing a king could do!" Sebek scowled, "He wanted to be king so badly, it came at the expense of his own family. And drag (Y/n)! And yet he'd still abandon his duties?!"
"I couldn't tell you the real reason, but I could make a few guesses. You know how something seemed off to me and I started looking into stuff when we first entered Leona's dream? I was looking up the scope of the dream that Leona's imagination built."
"Is this related to how the dream collapses when we get too far from the dreamer, and we get swallowed in an abyss?" Silver questioned.
"Yeah..." Idia agreed, "It's like procedural generation. For example...Most game maps are pre-made, but not every game works that way. Sometimes, each time a player moves...The game automatically generates a map around them based on algorithms. Dreams operate on the same basic idea—they only generate stuff in areas that the dreamer's imagination covers."
"And things not part of their awareness don't get manifested at all. That's why straying too far from the dreamer leads to dead ends and abyssal pits and stuff. But looking over things, I discovered that the map in Leona's dream is ludicrously huge. It's basically generating the entire Sunset Savanna at all times."
"What?!" Everyone said.
"Of course. If this is simulating economy and infrastructure at a national level..." Ortho nodded, "...it only makes sense that it would cover the whole country.
"I'll bet at first, his urban developments went great and the whole thing was a blast. But..." Idia trailed off, "His major ideas led to enormous amounts of work. They got hit with resource and food shortages, plus other issues. Once it hit that point, he stopped knowing exactly what to do. His motivation dropped. Then he went, "There's no way to achieve this," and just threw in the towel...That's my guess."
"Wow...Sounds like Leona-san, all right." Ruggie nodded.
"It's what happened in the spelldrive tournament." Jack said.
"You mean he knew deep down it'd never work, but chose to go through the motions anyway. What an utterly vexatious—ah, I mean to say, complicated individual." Azul changed his wording.
"Right. And with all of that in mind, Leona-senpai's dream is built in a very complicated and elaborate way. A minor shock won't be enough to wake him." Silver said.
"Sounds about right. Leona wouldn't wake up just from a smack the way Sebek did." Grim said.
The green haired male scowled at him, "Don't compare everyone to me!" He exclaimed as he then turned to the rest, "So how do we awaken him?"
"I think our only option might be to confiscate his controller." The Octavinelle male said.
"The controller...?" The wolf male questioned.
"The thing that allows him to play this giant sandbox game. His position as king is what gives him power over the land. Hence, if we take away his authority as king—his metaphorical controller...He'll have to stop playing whether or not he wants to."
The technomantic boy nodded, "That's true! If we can accomplish that, we might be able to force him back to reality."
"In that case..." The hyena male trailed off.
"He's gotta get dragged off his throne!" Both Savanaclaw males said.
"...But how?" Jack questioned.
"Historically speaking, deposing a king generally involves starting a revolution and installing a new sovereign." Sebek said.
