Alexis' POV
Chris unlocked the door and we stepped in the semi-cold flat.
I rubbed to my arms to warm myself a bit.
Ross laughed and said, "Ya' cold?"
"Hah, a little, but I'll live. I feel like if you crank up the heat, it'll get too warm."
He nodded at me.
"I'm gonna go see if, um, Bailey can video chat."
Chris asked, "What are you even gonna say to her?"
"Like I said, I'm going to figure out why she's working so much and needs all the money."
I felt kind of nervous.
I really hoped this wasn't something serious. I really can't stand Bailey upset.
I ran upstairs. I opened my laptop and went straight for Skype.
I clicked her username and called her.
She answered after about 3 or 4 rings.
"Hey, Bailey." I gave her a quick shake of my hand, trying to wave.
"Hey." She wasn't smiling as much as she usually does.
"Okay, I really, really want to know what's wrong. Can you please tell me B?"
She looked insanely upset.
She sighed, and then sniffled.
"It's, it's my mom."
I felt my heart sink.
"W-what about your mom?"
Bailey paused, so I began to think this was one of the worst moments in her entire life.
"She was diagnosed with breast cancer a little after I got back home."
I stared at the monitor, in pure shock.
Bailey started crying.
And then I started crying.
I felt so bad for her. Now I know why she has to work so much.
"Bailey, why didn't you just tell me?"
She tried to talk in between taking breaths. "I- I didn't want- to mess your life- up because mine was bad."
"Why would you mess mine up?"
"You wouldn't be able to- concentrate and would be- focusing on me."
I looked at her sympathetically.
I felt tears rolling down my cheeks, and I saw her tears rolling down her own cheeks.
Chris walked in then and began to ask, "Hey, what do you want for din-"
He paused once I turned my head. I guess he saw my face soaked with tears.
"Lex, what's wrong?" He was really concerned.
I just stared at him. How am I supposed to answer that without crying more?
He sighed and said, "Come here."
He was calling me over for a hug.
I took it.
I practically ran over to him, only a few feet away, and grasped him. I'm surprised he didn't pass out considering I was holding him so hard.
We hugged for about a minute, as I was practically soaking his shirt in tears, and he said, "Now, can someone tell me what's going on?"
I walked back over to my laptop and stared at my best friend crying on my monitor.
