Ruby red rays of light filtered into the campsite, stirring the sleeping humans. Another day, another fight for survival. December was the first to emerge from his tent, stretching his stiff arms. Out of habit he pushed his hair up, the dirty pink chunk of hair that once resembled an arrow took its loose form atop his head. December turned toward the still flickering camp fire, Tobi sat beside it, mask down, snacking on a soft pink bloody mass.
"Mornin' Tobi." December greeted, going to sit beside the sentient Zombie.
"Hai December, how'd you sleep?" He asked.
"Eh..." Came his tired reply.
"Rip." Tobi responded in a humorous way.
"How many of those we got left?" December asks, gesturing towards Tobi's life line.
"We still got enough to last a while. But the cooler isn't doin too great... some of the brains are starting to rot." Tobi replied honestly.
"Uuhhggggg great... well I'll add that to the list of things to look for while out today." December remarked.
"Ooooo You're going out again?" Came the excited voice of Daryl as he stepped out of his shared tent, a messy haired Finny following shortly after him.
"Yeah, I need to find a new spot for our camp, as well as a few supplies. The sooner I get this done the better so I'll be going out again after breakfast." December explained as the two boys joined him around the fire.
"Is it really wise to keep going out on your own?" Finn asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"It's better I go alone. I'm quicker and I have more experience." December answered curtly.
"Yeah but... what if you run into trouble? It would be better if more of us went with you. Plus then we'd build up experience as well." Finn argued, trying to get December to cave.
"Perhaps, but it would still be better if I went alone. We are not debating this Finn." December said in a stern tone, leaving no room for Finn to argue back.
By the time Sage finally left her tent, December was just about done with breakfast. She took a seat and the group ate their food in silence, until Finn decided to break it.
"How long are you planning on being gone today, December?"
"Don't know, depends on if I find anything, or if I run into trouble." He replied.
"Wait wait wait, you're going back out again?" Sage asked, setting her plate down.
"Yes, and before you start complaining, no I'm not taking you lot with me." December replied. Shutting down her next question.
"What, why not?" Sage pouted.
"It's dangerous, I'll be going near the city and we all know cities are usually filled with hordes. It'll be easier and safer if I go alone." December explained in a monotone voice. The three kids were well aware just how dangerous the cities could be.
"But that's why you shouldn't go alone!" Finn argued. "You could have extra eyes for look out, extra hands to carry supplies, or to help you if you get hurt out there."
"Finn," December called the boy's name in a warning tone, but Finn wasn't done yet.
"Also they could help you look for a new camp site, or pack extra weapons, or food, or anything! It would be a whole lot safer if you took someone with you instead of always running off alone! If something happened to you and you left us alone I'd never forgive you December." FInn continued to ramble, he could feel his emotions of dread and anger grow but he did his best to suppress them. However December could hear the strain in his voice. He let out an exhausted sigh, knowing there was no winning against them today.
