Chapter 40-Gwen

“So how was your weekend?”  Molly asked as we walked to homeroom.

I smile.  I couldn’t help the grin that spread through my lips.  “It was great.  Gabriel and I went to the fair in town.  How was your weekend?”

Molly parted her lips to answer but at that moment Tammy came running down the hall.  “Guess what?”  She was out of breath and beaming.

“What?”  Molly and I asked simultaneously.

“Kyle…he-he…”  She was tongue tied.  I knitted my eyebrows in confusion and Molly looked at Tammy, waiting for her to continue.

“Spit it out, Tams.  C’mon, you’re killing us here.”  I said.

She grabbed both our hands and led us towards the courtyard.  There were only a few people out in the frigid cold, huddled together in conversation or to keep warm.  I wrapped my arms around myself and saw my breath come out in a cloud in front of me.

“Kyle. Wants. Me. To. Go. To. Ohio. With. Him. And. Live. With. Him!”  Molly shrieked.

“What?!”  I was surprised and genuinely happy for her.

“Kylewantsmetogo-”

“We heard you the first time Tams.”  Molly cut in.  “Were those his exact words?”  She asked.

I looked at Molly’s grave expression.  Why isn’t she happy for her?  What’s going on?

“Yes!”  She jumped up and down, clasping her hands in joy.

I enveloped Tams in a hug and said, “I’m so happy for you.  For both of you!  So, I’m guessing you told him?”

“Yes, I told him yesterday night.  You were right.  I have to live in the moment and just take life as it is and not for granted.”  She beamed.  “I’m so happy!  I mean I even told my parents and they were shocked at first but then my mom started to cry….well, it all turned out great in the end!”

I let go of Tams and looked at her shinning blue eyes.  “I can see that.”  I smiled.

She sighed.  “Thank you.”

I stepped back to let Molly give Tams her hug but when I looked behind me she was gone.  We looked around the courtyard but she was nowhere in sight.  That was strange.

Tammy shrugged.  “I think I know what’s wrong.  I’ll tell you later.  Let’s go to class before we’re late.”

“Okay?”  I said.  The happiness we both had been feeling a couple of moments ago quickly faded.  I wondered what could have made Molly just walk away from us.  She should have been happy for Tams and Kyle but why wasn’t she?
