Chapter 12-Gabriel

It was December.

Exactly two months had passed since Gwen had discovered her father's infidelity.  It had been tough for her and I saw how much she struggled with it everyday.  She had changed drastically and was losing more of herself as the days passed.  She was indifferent towards everyone including me and I didn't know what to do.  All I knew is that I couldn't give up on her.  Her friends had all been on board "Operation: Bring Back Gwen" but as the weeks passed and they saw that she didn't make any progress; they soon gave up on her.

Tammy and I were the only ones who still had hope.  Somehow, Tammy and I became very good friends.  There was a sort of understanding between us that grew once Gwen started to change.  We held on to the hope that Gwen would realize that things in life happen and that we all have to move on at some point.  Like Tammy told me one afternoon, "She's strong.  She'll get through this.  It'll just take her some time."  I agreed.

As time passed, Gwen and I grew closer.  The following monday-two days after homecoming-Gwen and I started to hang out after school.  Spending time together was an outlet for her to not dwell on her family's unfortunate turn of events.  As a result, Mrs. Hampton also had grown to to my presence and ended up liking me.  During our afternoon's, Gwen and I studied (since we had most of classes together).  On rare days Gwen would talk about what happened on homecoming night but then she would suddenly grow quiet and wouldn't elaborate any further.  I didn't pry because I wanted her to tell me how she felt on her own without having me coax it out of her.  So I was just here for her.  Waiting for the day when she would open up and what had been going through her mind for the past two months.

I, on the other hand, was running out of time.

Calder and I had made a miscalculation on the time frame because nothing remotely dangerous had occurred.  I tried to contact him but I had no luck.  I had to relie on what I knew about my surroundings and go from there.  I ran through the information that Calder and I had gathered months prior to coming here, over and over again in my head.  But I couldn't find a single mistake.  The purpose of the information was essential for the mission so that a mistake did not happen.  But then here I am, two months here and nothing.  Everything was normal and nothing hinted to any danger.

I had to get in contact with Calder to figure out what is going on...

There was an annual camping trip coming up this Friday and everyone was excited for it.  The camping trip was only Seniors and it was always held the weekend we were released for winter break.  As Mr. Jameson said two days before the trip, "It is a last time to be reunited with friends before the new year." He had a point.  Most of us were going to spend the holiday with our families and won't get to see each other until classes resumed in January.

There was only one reason as to why I wanted to go to the camping trip and it was because of Gwen.  I wanted to make an attempt and try to persuade her to come.  Tammy had tried at lunch when I was getting my food but Gwen had refused.  She told me about their discussion a few minutes before the bell rang and Gwen was already heading to class.

"She just rudely said no."  Tammy started.  "I told her how she should come so we could all have fun together like old times and she just said that she didn't have time for us."  She sighed in frustration.  "Gabriel, I don't know what to do anymore.  Maybe you can get through to her."
