Chapter 49

Kim's POV

I wake up randomly in the night not really knowing why and the first thing I hear is the rain hitting the window.

It's quite loud against the glass of the window meaning it must be pouring.

I pull the duvet further up my body to my neck as I feel a chill throughout the room.

Me and Cheryl had both been cold last night so had actually slept in pjs, which doesn't happen often.

I was nearly asleep once again until I heard thunder from outside.

I don't make a movement and listen out for it once more just so I know it wasn't my mind playing a trick on me.

Once I hear it again I make sure Cheryl is still asleep beside me, I slip out of bed and make my way down the corridor to Katie's room.

I know she is scared of thunder and lightning so I just wanted to check she was ok.

As I push open the door she jumps round on her bed to face me, it was obvious that the thunder had woke her up.

The look on her face makes my heart brake, she looks so sad and scared so I make my way over to her as quick as I can.

"Katie, it's alright."

I sit beside her on her bed and wrap my arms around her. She doesn't say anything but I feel her grabbing my t-shirt in her hands making sure I will stay with her.

A loud crack of thunder sounds in her room and it lights up from a flash of lighting and I feel her push herself closer into my body.

I place a kiss on the top of her head and rub her back in hopes to calm her down.

"Katie, do you want to come and sleep in our bed?"

I feel her nob against me but when I try to get up she doesn't let go of me properly.

Knowing that I won't get her to walk to her room I grab her by the waist and lift her up like she is a little child.

It's easy to do because she is so light and I smile because I never got to do this when she was younger.

As I'm carrying her through the corridor another roar of thunder is heard making her jump slightly so I tighten my arms around her.

As we make it to mine and Cheryl's room I kick the door closed behind me with my foot and place Katie on the bed and slide in bedside her.

She cuddles into my side and I see Cheryl stir from all the movement but she doesn't wake up properly she just cuddles into Katie's back.

I spend the next ten minutes rubbing Katie's arm and kissing her head to protect her until I hear her breathing even out and notice she has fallen asleep.

I take one last look at my daughter and girlfriend and with a smile on my face I fall asleep.

Cheryl's POV

I wake up and I know it's the morning without having to open my eyes.

There isn't one part of me that wants to get up this morning and I'm not sure why, I just feel really tired.

I stretch out slightly making contact with skin.

I find it slightly strange that I'm not connected to Kim so I move into her and place a kiss on her neck.

It wasn't until I settled in her arms that I realise Kimba seems different this morning.

She feels different and there isn't the usual Kimba smell that I love, there is a hint of it but not much.
