~Kaiden's POV~

"Everything will be ok, Kaiden." Laura's mom reassured me, although I wasn't so certain.

Leaning back in the hospital chair, I groaned. "What's taking so long?"

"They're just running some tests son." Her dad said from the other side of the room. "Once all the tests come back she will be able to come home."

"What about the baby?" My stomach dropped.

One minute she had been laughing and the next she was on the ground screaming in pain. By the time the ambulance arrived she was feeling better but they still wanted to bring her in for observation.

Closing my eyes I push the memory of Laura on the floor, out of my mind. If I think about it for too long I'll run down the hall and into the hospital room just to make sure she's ok.

"Man," Clapping a hand on my shoulder, Harley dropped into the chair beside me. "She's a fighter. Always has been and always will be. Try not to think of the what if's and concentrate on the fact that for right now the doctors don't see a problem."

"You're right."

He grinned, "Of course I am, I'm always right."

Chuckling I shifted in my seat. "Sure, sure."

"Mr and Mrs Evans?" A tall man in a white coat called as he approached our small group.

Standing from his seat, Laura's dad moved over to the doctor. "How is she?"

"Laura is fine," He paused, casting his eyes over all of us before continuing. "The baby is fine also."

I've never understood pure relief until that moment. Every muscle that was strung so tight with tension relaxed as my lungs drew in a large gasp of oxygen.

"When can she come home?" Her mom pressed.

Smiling slightly, the doctor crossed his arms. "She is going to be discharged tomorrow morning. We would like to keep a watch over her tonight just in case but both are fighting fit and will be ready to go tomorrow."

Shaking the doctor's hand, Mr Evans smiled from ear to ear. "Thank you. Can we see her?"

"One at a time for now, she's tired and I'm afraid too many people might exhaust her further."

"Thank you." Laura's mom thanked as he walked away.

Pulling me into a hug she sobbed for a second before collecting herself. "I think you should go in first, Kaiden."

"No, I think she would want to see you." I protested.

Harley shook his head. "No way, go in and see you're girl."

"Ok, fine. I'll be quick."

Her mom waved it off. "Don't be silly, take as much time as you want to."

Smiling once more in her direction I moved off down the hall towards room four hundred and nine. The sterile walls all seemed to run into one another, completely void of decoration. Knocking once on the door I let myself in before closing it again silently behind me.

Laura lay on her side facing a large window that overlooked the houses outside. Her thin hair was tied in a messy heap atop her head although small strands had broken free of the elastic.

"Laura?" I whispered quietly.

Hearing my voice her head turned, her face full of concern and fear. "Kaiden."

Moving slowly, I pulled a chair over and took a seat quietly next to the bed. "How are you feeling?"

She sighed. "Could be better but they say everything is alright so I can't complain." An awkward smile formed on her lips as she rolled over, her eyes scanning worriedly over my face. "Are you ok?"
