~Laura's POV~

"So just like that he decides he wants in?" Lexi asked later that afternoon while we sat on her bed.

Nodding, I popped a chip into my mouth. "Apparently he will support any decision I choose to make."

"And what decision have you chosen?"

"To keep it."

Smiling ever so slightly she flopped back onto the bed beside me, "Your kid is going to be so attractive, have you seen its father?"

"I know." I replied, breaking into a fit of laughter I couldn't seem to contain. "I'm surprised he came and found me, I thought for sure when he walked away that was it. That I would be doing this all on my own."

"No you wouldn't, you have me remember?"

Lifting my eyes up to best friend, I couldn't help the overwhelming feeling of love that swirled happily in my tummy. Of course I knew she would never have ditched me but I would be lying if I said the thought never crossed my mind.
My phone started to vibrate beside me, drawing my attention back to the present and out of my head. Picking it up quickly I pressed answer and held the receiver to my ear.

"Hello?" I asked timidly.

Silence greeted me, if it wasn't for the slight sound of breathing on the other end I would have thought they'd hung up. Finally a husky voice spoke.

"Hey Laura, it's Kaiden."

"Kaiden? How did you get my number?"

"I rang a few friends and one of them had your number. I hope that's ok?"

I shot Lexi a confused look, "Uh sure, of course it is. What's up?"

"I was wondering if you wanted to go out for dinner to talk about things?"

"I can't." I replied a little to quickly.

Silently moving from her spot beside me, Lexi gave a confused smile before tip toeing into her ensuite bathroom.

"Oh, that's cool maybe another time?" The disappointment in his voice caused my stomach to drop as guilt resided low within my gut.

"Fine how about you come around for dinner tomorrow night, that way you can meet my family?"

Kaiden hesitated slightly before replying, "There's actually a party on tomorrow night at my friend Connors house, I thought you and Lexi might want to come with?"

"I don't know, I would have to ask her."

Right on cue Lexi walked back into the room, a sly smile on her face. "Ask me what?"
Deciding not to respond I held a finger to my lip hoping that would keep her quiet for at least five minutes of her life.

"Trust me I would never let anyone hurt you. We could just go for a few hours then leave if you aren't feeling comfortable." He paused for a second, his thick breath echoing through the phone before he continued. "Maybe I could come to dinner at yours then we could go together?"
About to say no at the idea of going out in public with him, I stopped myself. Whether I liked the idea or not we were about to have a baby, I needed to let him in.

"Okay, fine. Come to mine at six thirty tomorrow night."

"Alright, see you tomorrow, Laura."

I had to admit, I was thankful he was putting in the effort to try and get to know me before the baby was born. Hanging up the phone I fell back onto the mattress and closed my eyes, the faint ache of a migraine beginning to seep into my skull.
