~Kaiden's POV~

The dinner hadn't gone exactly as I'd hoped, or lack of dinner. We didn't even get a chance to eat before Laura practically pulled me back out the front door. Her brother seemed alright but her mom, she was a completely different story.
Of course I didn't expect them to greet me with open arms and start inviting me to family gatherings, which I wouldn't go to even if they did invite me because that shit is stupid, but still. I could tell by the way Laura fixed her hair every two seconds that she was embarrassed about what had happened.

I didn't blame her family. When I told my mum she pretty much said she expected me to screw up then passed out from the bottle of alcohol she'd consumed before I got home.

As we drove to Lexi's house, Laura's knuckles started to turn white from the tight grip she had on the steering wheel. Gently I put my hand on her thigh and squeezed slightly.

"It's okay Laura, calm down."

"No it isn't. They had no right to talk to you the way they did."

I laughed in a feeble attempt to lighten the mood, "It was really only your mom. I liked your brother, he seemed alright."

"Harley is amazing, he and I are really close." She smiled at the thought then looked back at the road, "I am sorry though I thought things would go better than they did."

"I didn't."

"What?" She asked shooting me a confused look.

I shrugged, moving my hand from her leg. "Of course they were going to hate me, I knocked their daughter up. I would be worried if they didn't hate me."

"True." chuckling quietly to herself, she pulled over in front of a large house with a white picket fence.

"Wow."

"What?" She asked.

Smirking I pointed to the fence, "They really do have the whole white picket fence and large house thing."

"I've never noticed that before." She giggled. Quickly I looked up to find her watching me, as soon as our eyes connected she looked away.

"Ready to get your drink on?" Lexi asked as she jumped into the back seat.

Spinning in her seat Laura narrowed her eyes at her friend. "Lex I can't drink, remember?"

"Oh," She mumbled, "Right I forgot you have a bun in the oven."

Laura slammed on the gas and pulled out into the seemingly quiet street. The car ride to Connors was painfully quiet, no one game to talk about dinner or the baby or the fact that only twenty four hours ago we hadn't spoken since the night I knocked her up.
I know, crude but true.
Slowly Laura came to a stop and parked the car before killing the gas and jumping out. I did the same shortly followed by Lexi who was to busy re-applying lip gloss to noticed we'd gotten out.

"Come on." I said quietly before grabbing Laura's hand and pulling her up the short driveway to the door.

Knocking once the door opened. The smell of cigarette smoke, sweat with a little alcohol thrown in the mix filled my nose.

"I don't know if I should be here." Laura all but whispered.

"It's alright I have your back." Squeezing her hand gently once I walked inside, making sure to check and see that the girls were still behind me.

"Kaiden is that you?" Connor called out from the kitchen, "Just in time to start doing shots!"

Releasing Laura's hand I motioned for them to follow as I made my way into the kitchen, "Nah not drinking tonight man just came to say hey."

"Bullshit you're not drinking, you always drink." He argued, pushing a shot glass full of clear liquid into my hand.

I really felt like a drink and after the day I'd had, I was more inclined to get completely smashed. Shame I had to start growing up. Looking at Laura for confirmation she smiled and nodded her head letting me know it was ok. Downing the shot, I slammed the glass on the bench top as the warm liquid ran a line of fire down my throat.

"Hey you have a shadow. What's with Evans and Hodge following you around like lost dogs?"

"Man, shut up." I snapped.

Connor held up a hand before knocking back another shot. "You banging her or something?"

"Something." I mumbled before taking my second and last shot of the evening.

"Right well you might want her to chill out, she looks like she's about to pass out."

"What?" Quickly I snapped my head towards Laura who's complexion had gone a ghostly pale. Striding over to her I put my hand on her face and forced her to look up at me.

"Are you alright? You look like your about to faint."

"I'm fine just a little light headed."

Just as I moved my hand away she began to sway on her feet, wrapping my arm around her waist I led her over to a chair near the door.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked Lexi who had the same confused look as I did.

"I don't know, one minute she was fine the next I thought she was gonna throw up."

"Guys I'm fine stop fussing." Laura waved us away before moving to stand. As soon as she was vertical she stumbled and fell into me.

"Connor?" I yelled into the house.

"What?

"Can Laura lie down in your room she isn't feeling well."

He laughed, "Why do you care?"

"Because I do." I barked loudly causing a few heads to turn in my direction. I didn't care, they only thing on my mind was her.

"Fine you know where it is."

"Thanks."

Quickly I pulled Laura into my arms, carrying her down the long corridor I pushed on the door to Connors room. Once inside I pulled back the blanket and sat her down before lying down beside her.
"Are you ok?"

She nodded, "Just sleepy this whole pregnant thing takes it out of me."

"I'm sorry."

"For?" She asked between yawns.

Snuggling closer to her I closed my eyes and breathed in the smell of her perfume, the perfect essence of roses.

"Everything." I answered but I knew she was already asleep.

Her breathing became deep as her chest began to rise and fall softy with every breath. I would never let anything happen to either of them for as long as I lived, that was a promise I was sure as hell going to keep.
