~Laura's POV~
I couldn't hear anything.
The pounding of my heart was making it impossible to make out a single word the doctor was saying. One small, normally insignificant word was now the only thing running through my mind, positive. Normally people wouldn't take notice of a word like positive unless you're sitting in front of a doctor who had just turned your whole short lived life completely on its head."Mrs. Evans, are you listening to me?" Doctor Walters asked gently, scanning his eyes over my face.
"I can't be, this wasn't how my life was supposed to go." I squeaked, looking anywhere but at the doctors worried face.
"I know this is a lot to take in."
Scoffing I rolled my eyes, "Biggest understatement of the year."
The words just seemed to spill from my lips, like I had no control over what I was saying."There are options you can take, abortion or adoption. Having a baby Mrs Evans doesn't mean the end of your life." Holding out a piece of paper with numbers scribbled messily down the white sheet, he gave a reassuring smile.
"Am I done?"
"Your about six weeks along, you can come back in a few weeks for your first ultrasound. Apart from that, you are free to go but I will be in touch soon."
Lifting myself quickly from the cold plastic chair I rushed out of his office. How had one night, one stupid night full of alcohol and bad choices landed me completely fucked? I guess when adults say it only takes one time, one mistake and nine months later you're a parent, they really know what they are talking about.
Somehow I managed to make it back to the car without completely self-destructing, but as soon as the door to my KIA Rio shut, it was like the flood gates to a massive dam opened.
Why me? Out of all the girls at school who sleep around why did it have to be me who gets pregnant from a one night stand?
To make things worse, the father of this child was the schools notorious play boy, the one who sleeps with anything that has two legs and a vagina and I was no exception.
Pushing the key into the ignition, I wipe the tears from my eyes and pull out onto the busy road. Driving home goes by in a blur, before I know it I'm standing in the lounge room of my large childhood home.My family stare at me then look at each other, confusion and concern on all of their faces.
"Laura darling, have you been crying?" Mom asks, concern filling her voice.
Taking a deep breath I decide to just tell them, like ripping off a band-aid. I just hoped that by the end of it I'd still be breathing.
"I have something to tell you."
"Shit this sounds bad." My older brother Harley curses, shifting his attention in my direction.
Laughing slightly I nod, "You could say that, yeah."
"Well, what's wrong? Are you in trouble with the law?" My mother questions, her eyes narrowing at me.
"No Mom, I'm not in trouble with the law."
"Good, imagine the shame that would bring upon the family."
Suddenly I didn't feel so great about telling them that they were about to be grandparents in less than eight months.
"I'm not in trouble with the law." I snap, growing frustrated with the situation I'd been landed in.
Shooting me a stern glare, Mom sighed. "Well then, hurry up and tell us."
"Okay well..... I'm," I stammer.
"Laura please, spit it out already." Dad orders impatiently.
Sighing I let my eyes close and say a silent prayer before letting the words fall freely from my mouth, "I'm pregnant."
