*********************************"-loves her!"
That was what Hazel heard when she walked back into the house.
"The hell are you doing?" Johnny called as she went back into the house. "The hell is she doing?" he then asked Logan. He shrugged.
"Dad, where're the keys to my Mustang?" she asked him.
"Counter," he replied. "Why?"
"I think Logan and I are gonna take it into the city," she replied, grabbing the keys on the counter. "Love you!"
"Love you, too," her father replied, and Haz skipped out the front door. The four parents laughed and shook their heads.
"Logan and I are taking the Mustang, that's the hell what," Hazel replied to Johnny. Then she turned to Logan. "Are you gonna drink tonight?"
"No, babe," he shook his head.
"Alright. Logan and I are taking the Mustang, then. We'll meet you guys in the city."
"Can I come?" Sam asked her.
"Sam, shut up," David scolded.
"No," Haz replied. "I want some alone time with my boyfriend."
"Ewwwww!" Sam and Billy scrunched up their noses.
"C'mon, guys!" Mikey groaned from the driver's seat of Mrs. G's car.
"Yes," Hazel agreed, getting into the driver's seat of her white-with-black-racing-striped sixty five Shelby. Logan got into the passenger's side.
"Do we have everyone?" Mikey asked, and Hazel nodded.
"Now can you guys go, cause I'm not getting out of the driveway unless you guys go!"
Mike pulled out of the driveway, and Hazel followed.
"Sorry about that," she finally sighed, "but they just get on my nerves a lot."
"I understand. Lenox annoys the crap out of me sometimes, too," he smiled, squeezing her hand.
"I'm a little on edge this week," she admitted, following the others' car at a safe distance.
"I know, babe," he nodded, squeezing her hand again.
"I want to talk about what happened earlier, too," she added.
"Oh?" Logan had a lump in his throat.
"I meant it," she said, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel. "I don't want you to think that I said it just because you said it. I meant it. Completely. I love you, Logan," she added sincerely.
"I know, Hazel. I meant it, too. And," he sighed, "that wasn't the first time you had said it to me."
"What?" Hazel asked, glancing at him quickly. Then she flitted her eyes back to the road.
"The night of Matty's wedding. When you got drunk, and we fell asleep together?" he told her. She nodded understandingly.
"Yeah?"
"You were drunk, and you told me you loved me. We had only been dating a month and a half, but....You were drunk, so I didn't know if I should've brought it up."
Hazel thought back to that day. She was, technically, she guessed, drunk, but she had known (for the most part) what was going on around her. She remembered Logan carrying her to her room, falling asleep together, but she hadn't remembered telling him she loved him. Maybe she did. She probably did.
"You know," she giggled, grinning crookedly, "I probably did. I remember a lot of things about that night, but I don't remember that."
"You're not mad I didn't tell you?"
"Babe, of course I'm not," she laughing, this time squeezing his hand. "I'm honestly not. And word to the wise," she added with another grin, "I can't be held accountable for what I do drunk."
"Good to know," Logan laughed. The two remained quiet for a few minutes, humming along to Want to Want Me by Jason Derulo. After about a two minutes of that, she turned down the radio.
"I also have to ask you something else," she told him.
"I'm starting to get the feeling this is the reason you didn't want anyone else to come with us," he teased. "In all seriousness, though, shoot."
"Do you feel threatened cause me and the Garoppolos are all so close?"
"Not at all," he shook his head.
"Not even with Mike?" she continued.
"Not even with Mike. Haz, you told me yourself: they're like your brothers. You love them like family. I'd have to be a real jackass to make an issue out of that. Honestly, I really don't care," he added.
"Oh."
"No, shit, I didn't mean it that way," he sighed. "I meant I don't care as in, like, it doesn't bother me. Not like, as in I don't give a damn about your feelings? Shit, do you know what I mean?"
"I knew what you meant, Logan," she smiled slightly, laughing. He exhaled in relief.
"Good. I didn't want to sound like a jackass."
"You're good, babe," she smiled again. Her's and Logan's hands just seemed to fit so seamlessly together. And God, she was so in love.
"So what are we gonna do in the city?" Logan asked her, tapping his fingers on his knee.
"Well, I'm not sure. We might go to one of the bars. But....I was thinking that you and I could go to a couple of my favorite shops," she said, a smile growing on her face. "There's this record shop, right? And it always has all the best records. From oldies to the new records. And there's this bookstore, and oh my gosh the books are so beautiful and they're so old and they smell like vanilla and leather and musky cologne and gosh I just adore it so much," she rambled.
"That sounds wonderful, Hazel," he smiled, his dimple showing. "I can't wait."
"This is gonna be a great week. It's gonna be so good," Hazel smiled, looking at the lanky boy sitting next to her. "I think it's gonna go so well. I'm so excited for this week."
"It is gonna be great. I'm....I'm so happy when I'm with you, Hazel. And you just make me so happy. And I care so much about you, and....When I'm with you I get this fluttery feeling in my chest, and I love you a lot," he said in a soft voice.
"I love you a lot, too, Logan. I love you a lot. And I just....I know it's only been a little while but I really, really care about you and you mean the world to me and I just....I think this is going somewhere. And I'm so excited to see what the future holds for us," she said softly. He couldn't hold back his smile anymore; his face was plastered with a gigantic grin. Upon seeing his grin, so was hers.
"This is gonna be really, really great," he agreed, squeezing her hand. She squeezed back, and they kept following the sedan in front of them.
"Ooh, I love this song!" Hazel then gushed. She turned up the radio.
"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you and everything you do. Yeah, they were all yellow," the haunting voice of Chris Martin sang softly through the radio. He seemed to be directly singing to both Hazel and Logan. "I came along; I wrote a song for you, and all the things you do. And it was called yellow...."
Logan squeezed her hand again, and they continued their drive to the city.
