5 YEARS LATER

"Already married? Theo what the hell?"

"I was going to tell you but-"

"When the hell were you going to tell me? After we said our vows? When you legally had 2 wives?"

"I'm sorry! I love you, Ellianah-"

Standing still, I sternly stared into his eyes. They were filled to the brim with empty lies and conscious deceiving words that meant nothing to him.

"You know how much I've been through and you know how much my children and I have sacrificed to be with you. And then you tell me this. I'm finished."

Bolting upright in bed, I breathed a sigh of relief and hit the snooze button on the alarm. Glaring lazily at the pale ceiling, I eventually snapped out of my early morning dream and rolled out of bed.

"Mommy, Behati's taking all the Cheerios and I want the Cheerios too!"

Hearing a loud crash from downstairs, I quickly made my way into the kitchen to sort out wherever breakfast fiasco was taking place.

It turned out that my two children were stood in the middle of the kitchen fighting over a box full of Cheerios.

"Guys, come on. There's enough left for you both to have some, don't worry. You kids go and brush your teeth and get dressed for school whilst Mommy makes you breakfast."

I planted a kiss on both their heads before they scampered off to the bathroom. I poured cereal for all three of us and placed glasses of juice on the table, along with a carton of milk. Following in their footsteps, I quickly washed and dressed and applied my usual make-up before heading back down the stairs to eat breakfast with my kids.

Together we sat at the table and I helped them pour the milk on their cereal. Behati was the more independent of the two. She would always want to do things for herself, whereas Bodhi was happy for you to lay everything out for him on a plate, so to speak.

"So, are you excited for your first day at school, Behati?"

She nodded eagerly, grinning from ear to ear.

"Bodhi, what about you? It's your first day in first grade today!"

"I know, I'm a big kid now."

I smiled to myself as he took his cup in both hands and carefully brought it to his lips, drinking all the juice in one go.

Once we'd all finished and I double checked that the kids had their lunch bags, I put both of them in the car and set off in the direction of school.

School in Chicago.

After the, incident, with Theo, I moved myself and the children back to Chicago. I couldn't stay in Indiana any longer and Chicago was home to me and them. We bought a place just around the corner from Andy and Kayla's house.

I held onto my children's hands tightly as we made our way into school. Bodhi seemed itching to get into his classroom and see all his friends, however Behati was much quieter than usual. Her silky brown hair that reached her waist was, today, in a French plait down the centre of her back. Her brown eyes looked frightened and dark as she clung onto my hand and stayed glued to my side. Bodhi had light brown hair that was still messy from sleeping. It was fairly short and stuck up in random places, not that he minded one bit.

I took Bodhi to the door of his classroom and introduced myself to his new teacher. After, I headed down the hall with Behati to Kindergarten. The halls were filled with chatter and the occasional cry could be heard, but that was normal for a school. We eventually reached a tall brown door which I pushed open gently. Inside, the walls were covered in different coloured boarding paper. Pictures of cartoons and animals were pinned up all around the classroom. Shapes and paper mâché globes were dangling from the ceiling, spinning gently in the breeze as people walked underneath. It was a beautiful classroom and I knew Behati would love all the colours.

But she loved one thing more.

"Daddy!"

A few of the parents turned to stare as Behati bounded across the classroom to Pete. He crouched down and hugged her tightly, kissing her head. I awkwardly made my way over to them, seeing Jacob standing beside Pete, not knowing what to do.

"Hey, how are you?"

Pete smiled at me. I had seen him occasionally to drop off the children and vice versa, but we had never had much of a conversation and he still didn't know what happened out in Indiana.

"I'm good thanks, how about you?"

"I'm good. Is Bodhi alright? I spoke to his teacher earlier on, she seems nice."

"Yeah he was excited to see his friends so I made sure he was okay before leaving him to it."

The teacher made an announcement that all the parents needed to leave so the class could start their day. Behati started to freak out and hugged my knees.

"Who am I going to sit with? What if nobody likes me? I don't want to be alone!"

"Baby don't-"

"Don't worry, you can sit with me. We can be friends if you like?"

Behati peeked her head up and looked at Jacob. His short, so blonde it was almost white, hair was tousled with gel at the front. His blue eyes were kind and inviting as he held out his small hand for Behati as other children started to sit down on the carpet in amongst the cushions.

I urged Behati to go with Jacob and eventually she did. They walked off together and sat down, waving as we left the classroom.

I had done it. I had successfully, again, conquered the first day of school.

Pete and I walked together across the parking lot. I knew that Declan was starting 4th grade since he was now 9 and Ruby and Oscar were starting 3rd grade as they were both 8. Thea was starting 2nd grade as she was 7, and her little brother Jamie was in nursery for another year.

As for Bronx and Calum, well, it was like they had just kept on growing. Both of them were starting their Sophomore year of high school, being both 15 years old. That scared me. I remember first meeting Bronx and he was that little 7 year old that lover the Avengers. Time is precious.

"How's Bronx doing? Is he enjoying high school?"

Pete let out a sarcastic laugh.

"He hates it, but I don't blame him. He's a good kid but he's hardly home anymore. Sometimes I worry about what he's doing but I know I'm just being stupid."

"Well, that's teenagers for you I guess. Listen I've got to run now but I'll bring the kids over at 11 ish on Saturday, is that alright?"

"That's fine, yeah. See you then."

I smiled and headed to my car. As soon as I got into the drivers seat, I waited a few minutes before leaving. I was shaking like a leaf as I tried to put the key into the ignition, missing several times as tears blurred my vision and trickled down my face.

I didn't know why I felt like that. I didn't know why my ex fiancée and father of my children was making me cry in a parking lot. I didn't know anything, but I needed to figure it out, I needed to figure everything out. I had given up so much for the wrong people at the wrong times and now, I just needed to be sure.

I knew exactly where to start.
