I could tell instantly by Gabe's smile that he was ecstatic. I wasn't surprised, he loved babies, but then after a few moments, his wide grin turned into a straight face.
"Congratulations, I think?" He said, laughing slightly.
"Thanks, I found out whilst Pete was on tour and I'm about six weeks, maybe seven."
Gabe hugged me, unsure of what to say next. I hugged back and stayed quiet for a while, scared about what was going to happen in my life next. When I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't wait to tell Pete. He had been wanting another child with me as soon as Bodhi was born, I guess it didn't take very long for it to happen.
"I, I don't know whether to be happy or sad..." I said, laughing as I rested my head on Gabe's shoulder.
"Happy! You're going to be a mom again!"
Gabe's words filled me with excitement. Becoming a mother was something that you have to experience to feel. It's like you change bodies with an older person. Suddenly, nothing is about you anymore, there's this other tiny person that relies on you for everything and you have to be there. And on top of that, you love them unconditionally and they bring so much joy and happiness to you that your heart hurts at how amazing they are. It changes your life, it really does.
"Wow. That sounds crazy." I breathed, shaking my head slowly.
"And it will be, but you'll be fine, don't worry about a thing."
Not long after, Patrick called us to dinner and the four of us sat around the table together. Gabrielle had made lasagna for us which was amazing. We spoke about the day's events and both Patrick and Gabrielle were really supportive of my decision to make Bronx go with Pete. It made me happy that they were on my side and that they believed in me. I just wished my relationship was like theirs, no bumps in the road, no arguments, nothing. It was then that I realised I should tell them. If anyone was to know next that wasn't Pete, it should be them.
"Guys, I have something to say..." I said, taking a sip of my water before placing the glass down onto the table.
I put down my knife and fork and as I looked up, I caught Gabe's eye. He was giving me an 'are-you-sure' kind of gaze. I nodded and he sent me a reassuring smile, letting me know he approved of my decision, even though I told him not to tell anyone before.
"Well, while you were on tour," I glanced at Patrick, "I made a pretty big discovery that, well, I'm pregnant. Again."
Letting out a huge sigh, I felt as though telling them I was relieving myself of a huge weight that was on my shoulders. I most definitely needed both of them by my side throughout this and without them, I wouldn't be able to do it, especially not in these circumstances. Gabe was my best friend and I couldn't do anything without him, but sometimes, I like the comfort of having Patrick's presence an female company is never lacking in Gabrielle.
"Oh my God, congratulations!" Gabrielle grinned. Her eyes were wide and bright, I could tell how happy she was for me.
"Are you being serious?" Patrick said, drawing my eyes from his wife to him. I nodded. He stood up and came around the table to hug me. I hugged him back tightly, not letting go. I noticed he was getting a tiny bit emotional, which made me realise that I made the right decision in telling them.
"You're going to make a great mom for this new baby, with or without Pete, you understand?" Patrick whispered, looking me in the eyes. Even though we were only a few years apart in age, Patrick's personality was fatherly to me and I loved it. He made me feel at home wherever I was, whoever I was with.
I nodded and sat back down, watching Gabrielle raise her glass.
"A toast to Ellianah, and her amazing news."
