"Come on Bronx we gotta go!" I called out, desperately rocking Bodhi to try and silence his continuous cries.
"I'm coming!"
After a few moments, Bronx appeared at the foot of the stairs; his jumper on backwards and his shoelaces untied. Laughing to myself, I placed Bodhi in his car seat and knelt down in front of Bronx.
"Let me help you."
I tied his laces and helped him fix his jumper. I didn't get much sleep last night and I didn't think Bronx did either. We both looked extremely tired and our constant yawning proved this. After a stressful morning, the three of us finally made it out of the front door and into the car.
Driving for a while, Bronx decided he wanted to play some Green Day. He pushed in a CD and together we sang along to some of his favourites. For a little kid, he had a great taste in music. I suppose that it was down to his Dad. Glancing at the dashboard, I noticed that the time was 9:45. Pete and the boys would be landing in 39 minutes. This made me both excited and anxious, I couldn't wait to see him, all of them actually.
Just as Bronx began belting out to chorus to Holiday, my phone rang and connected to the car. I hit answer and the music cut out.
"Hello?" I answered, Bronx fell silent and Bodhi squealed in the background.
"Hey Ell, it's Lucy. Are you- guys be quiet! Are you almost here?"
Laughing at the twins in the background, I answered, "Yeah we're about ten minutes from the airport. Are you there?"
"Yep, so is Gabrielle and Declan. Kayla and Thea are on their way. We're gonna meet in the terminal, is that okay?"
"Yeah sure. We'll be there soon, see you."
"See you soon Ell."
The call ended to the music slowly faded back in. Bronx hummed along whilst I nervously tapped on the steering wheel with my nails. We weren't far from the airport and I knew that in just over an hour, Pete would be home with me and his family. My heart was constantly aching for him and I could feel it pulsing more and more by the second.
"Look! A plane is taking off!" Bronx pressed his face against the car window, staring up at the sky and an aeroplane rapidly distanced itself from the runway below.
"Yeah, just look out for one landing. Your dad might be on there."
After almost five minutes scouring the car park, we eventually found a parking space not far from a car I strongly recognised as Kayla's. We were last to arrive, which wasn't a big surprise. It was a regular thing for our family to be late and Pete was certainly no different.
"Okay, hold my hand when we cross the roads OK? It's dangerous on here, lots of cars." I explained whilst carefully cradling Bodhi into my chest.
"Wait! My diary is in the back seat and I need to give it to Dad straight away!" Bronx ran back to the car, almost giving me a heart attack, and began ferociously tugging on the handle. I unlocked the door and watched him grab the book before he closed and I locked the doors again.
Taking his hand, Bronx grinned up at me as we walked into the terminal. There were paparazzi all over the place but I kept my head down, Bodhi close into my chest and Bronx tightly in my hand. Security met us in the check in and we were escorted through to the arrivals where the band would get off their plane. Immediately, I spotted the girls and Bronx ran over to Declan. I let him go and since there was nobody else but us and a few other people waiting for arrivals, I wasn't worried.
"Hey, are you ready?" Lucy grinned, keeping one eye on both Oscar and Ruby.
"Never been more ready," I smiled, greeting the other girls.
I took a seat and Gabrielle handed me a coffee to help wake me up. It was evident that I hadn't slept and everyone noticed. It was no secret that they were just as anxious as I was too. Looking around, I saw Bronx educating a young Declan on super heroes, Oscar and Ruby bullying one of our close friends and also security guards, and then there was Thea. She was sat quietly on Kayla's lap, staring around the building silently, waiting for her dad to come back. Bodhi was wide awake but thankfully he wasn't hungry since I fed him before we left home.
The morning had been very stressful and waking up half an hour late wasn't much of a help either. I didn't fall asleep until around 2am and we had to wake up at 7 to be on time. Nothing really went to plan since Bodhi was acting up when I tried to dress him but I think that me stressing out made him anxious. Bronx was surprisingly calm until I started asking him to speed up a little. That was when he spilt his orange juice down his shirt and had to get a clean jumper, which was the one he put on backwards moments before we needed to leave.
Nevertheless, we got here in one piece and I couldn't be happier.
"Hey Ell, your phone just buzzed." Gabrielle nudged me, throwing her coffee cup into the bin.
"Huh? Oh." I mumbled, carefully reaching into my pocked to try and access my phone without knocking Bodhi too much.
It was a text, from Pete.
'I see you.'
With my heart in my mouth, I began to frantically look around me, in search of a pair of warm brown eyes that made me feel loved more than ever.
"What was it?" Lucy asked, peering at my phone screen. I didn't say anything, just tilted it for her to read, "Oh my god, guys look."
Lucy took the phone from my hands and showed it to the other girls. Curiosity and love got the better of me and, with Bodhi still safely in my arms, I rose to my feet and started to walk around. Sitting was making me way too anxious and knowing that Pete was so close to me, I couldn't sit around and wait any longer.
Bodhi squirmed in my arms as I walked over to the large window that faced out onto the air field. I watched as planes took off and landed. Bodhi's wriggling became more intense and he started to babble in baby words. I frowned to myself and looked down at him, slowly turning around.
"Hey Bodhi what are you-"
"Hey babe, I'm home."
