I walked down the stairs behind San. My sweaty hands glided off the polished oak wood hand railing smoothly. I felt my stomach churn as I imagined all the things that could go wrong at the dinner. Every step down the stairs seemed to last forever. My eyes were fixed on my shoes as almost reached the bottom of the stairs.
I was so nervous I started feeling light headed. As my foot reached the last step of the stairs I felt the blood drain from my face. The dinner room was silent. All eyes were on me, I could feel it. I didn't dare to look up at San's family and their judging eyes.
"My god... Wooyoung?" I heard San's mother speak hesitantly. I still didn't look up at them. Did I over do it? "You look gorgeous." She spoke softly. My head snapped upward. My eyes met those of San's mom. Her eyes sparkled with joy and lights from the candles that decorated the large dinner table.
My eyes roamed all over the table. San's father smiled warmly. Jongho and Sunhee seemed stunned. Yeosang, of course, looked proud.
And San
I couldn't read his expression, but he was smiling. His eyebrows knotted slightly and his eyes soft.
"You really think so, miss Choi?" I asked shakily. She threw her head back as she laughed heartily.
"Of course I do, silly! You look stunning! Go sit down with san, sweetheart." She said warmly while gesturing to the two empty seats next to Yeosang and Sunhee.
I walked towards the seats and reached for the chair to pull it back, but San beat me to it. He pulled thechair back and gestured for me to sit down with that stupidly cute smile of his.
"Thank you, San." I said with a small chuckle before sitting down. San sat down next to me and I finally took som time to look at all the different delicious foods on the table. There were steaks seasoned to perfection and decorated with fresh vegetables. There were side dishes all over the place, like small salads, baskets with bread and fried potatoes.
The smell was out of this world. I had to keep myself from drooling at the sight of all the dishes.
I was pulled out of my trance when I felt San pull my hand out of my lap and hold it tightly. I looked at him in shock, my face immediately heating up and growing red. San looked at me confusedly.
"Give Yeosang your other hand, dad is making a little speech." San whispered close to my ear. I was sure that I was bright red. Hopefully they can't see it due to the dim lights. I gave Yeosang my other hand and looked at mr Choi.
"Dear family- and guests, I want to thank you all for coming and spending this Christmas with me. Let's enjoy this dinner together while spreading joy and love to one another. Normally we have our youngest, Jongho, do the toast, but let's make Wooyoung do it today. Thank you for joining us this year Wooyoung." My eyes widened as mr Choi spoke the words. I have to make a toast? Miss Choi had already filled our glasses with champagne and was now looking at me expectingly.
"Relax, it's just a toast." San whispered gently. I picked up my glass shakily. San gestured for me to stand up and I hesitantly did so. I held my glass before me and spoke shakily.
"To new friends, a new year and to us." I cringed so badly, but San's family seemed to love my toast. They chuckled as they all clinged their glasses together and took the first sip of their probably expensive champagne.
As I sat back down I felt a hand settle on my lower back as some kind of reassurance. San's thumb caressed my back gently, easing my nerves.
Miss Choi started cutting the steak and giving everyone a portion and like that the dinner started. Everyone was chatting and laughing together, but not me. I was silently observing and enjoying the food and coziness of it all.
