Twenty minutes later, Leo walked out alone, his hands in his jacket pockets, spine straight but heavy. He spotted Nathan near the side of a fence. His face was more at ease now, body relaxed like he wasn't carrying so much weight of the world on him anymore. He didn't move until Leo stopped just a few feet away.

"I didn't think you'd come," Nathan said quietly.

"I wasn't sure I should," Leo replied.

Nathan swallowed. "Fair."

Silence stretched between them.

"I'm not here to argue," Nathan said. "Or explain away anything. I just... I owe you something honest."

Leo tilted his head slightly. "Okay."

Nathan inhaled, jaw tight. "I was wrong. About everything. About you. The night of the rave, I saw something that scared me, and instead of talking to you, I ran with it. I made assumptions. Let fear drive every thought I had after that."

Leo's voice was calm, but taut. "You didn't just run with it. You rewrote who I was in your head and then ghosted me like I was something dangerous. Like I was something dirty."

Nathan winced.

"I was spiraling," he admitted. "But that's not an excuse. You trusted me, and I betrayed that trust. I thought I was protecting myself, but really, I was just being a coward."

Leo crossed his arms. His voice never rose, but every word landed like a weight. "You weren't just a friend to me. You were someone I leaned on when I was trying to make sense of things—my life, my power, myself. And you took one bad night and threw it all away like I wasn't worth asking questions first."

Nathan looked up, guilt washing over his face. "I know. And I hate that it took losing your trust to see how much I failed you."

Leo studied him. "Do you know the worst part? It wasn't even about you turning away from me. It was what that said about who you thought I was. I scared you once and that was all it took for you to stop seeing me as human."

Nathan blinked fast, eyes wet. "You're right. And I don't expect forgiveness for that. I just wanted to say it out loud. To your face. You didn't deserve any of it."

Another long silence.

Leo looked away for a beat, then back. "I'm not angry anymore. Not really. I've been hurt worse. But I've also grown since then. I don't have space in my life for people who don't know how to hold complexity. Who only stay when I'm easy to love."

Nathan nodded slowly. "I'm not asking to be in your life the way I was before. I wouldn't feel right trying to pick up where we left off. But I want to be better. Learn from what I did. Be someone who shows up, not someone who bails when it's hard."
