The bus hissed as it settled into park, gravel crunching under heavy tires. The Glen Capri Motel rose before them like a final bad decision. It looked less like a place people stayed in and more like one they stumbled into by mistake and never left. Half the lights inside were flickering, or completely dead, and the whole building smelled like mildew and crushed cigarette butts. Scott stepped off the bus and took one look around, nose wrinkling.

"I've seen worse," he said simply.

Stiles gave him a slow, incredulous look. "Where have you seen worse?"

Before Scott could answer, Coach Finstock stomped to the front of the group, whistle around his neck and a clipboard he hadn't used once on the entire trip clutched like a weapon of authority.

"Listen up!" he barked, clapping his hands once. "The meet's been pushed to tomorrow. This dump was the closest motel with the most vacancies and the least amount of good judgment when it comes to accepting a bunch of degenerates like yourselves." He scanned the group, clearly daring someone to smile. "You'll be bunking two to a room. Choose wisely. I don't want to hear about any 'accidental' bed sharing or God forbid, cuddling. No sexual perversions perpetrated by you little deviants. Got that? Keep your dirty little hands to your dirty little selves!"

Stiles had already turned to his side the moment "bunking" came up. "Boys' night," he said instantly, nudging Leo's arm. "Us three."

Scott groaned dramatically. "Seriously? I have to listen to you two cuddle all night again?"

Leo smirked, slinging his duffel over one shoulder. "You could always sleep outside, big guy."

Scott just rolled his eyes and trudged after them up the metal stairs.

Meanwhile, across the courtyard, Allison, Rylee, and Lydia remained still in the parking lot. Lydia hadn't moved.

Allison noticed first. "Lydia?"

Lydia stood staring up at the weather-stained door of the second floor corner unit like it was about to sprout fangs. Her eyes were glassy but focused, locked into something no one else could see.
