As y'all can probably guess, I recommend playing chasing cars by snow patrol from start to finish.

On repeat.

Some time ago...

The sheets were barely hanging on at this point, tangled low around their hips and warm from the heat of the night before. Stiles lay on his back, one arm draped behind his head, the other lazily tracing shapes along Leo's bare shoulder. Leo was sprawled half across him, skin to skin, their legs hooked together in the kind of knot only sleep and comfort could make.

"You're staring," Stiles said without opening his eyes.

"Because I'm obsessed," Leo deadpanned.

"Oh yeah?" Stiles cracked one eye open. "You mean by my devastating bed hair or the fact that I look like I fought a pillow and lost?"

Leo snorted. "Definitely the bed hair. The rest is just a bonus."

Stiles hummed, a little smug, and his fingers started drawing lazy patterns down Leo's spine. "You're clingy in the mornings," he said.

"I'm naked in the mornings," Leo replied, lips twitching. "Clingy comes with the territory."

Stiles laughed under his breath, the sound low and warm in his chest, and Leo felt it against his cheek where he was pressed in close. For a while, that was enough. The warmth of skin, the soft rhythm of breathing, the safety of not having to fill the silence.

Then Stiles spoke again, quieter this time. "You ever think about how temporary this could be?"

Leo's brows pulled together. "What do you mean?"

"I mean..." Stiles' gaze flicked away for a second, like he was trying to pretend it wasn't as heavy as it sounded. "Life doesn't exactly play fair. Things happen. People... get taken away." His fingers stilled against Leo's back. "And this, right here, just feels like the kind of thing you don't get to keep forever."

Leo went still. For a moment, neither of them moved, and the morning light through the blinds seemed too bright, too soft for words like that. "I think about it," Leo admitted finally. His voice was low, almost reluctant. "More than I want to. I know how fast things change. How fast you can lose someone."

Stiles looked at him then, really looked, his expression caught between tenderness and something sadder.

"That's why I..." Leo hesitated, his hand sliding to rest flat over Stiles' chest, feeling the steady beat beneath his palm. "That's why I hold on like this. Because I don't know when I won't get the chance again."
