The next few weeks, everyone was busy with preparing for the merger. Both Packs were heavily involved in the decisions of designing, constructing and delegation of duties.
It was decided that both the Councils would still exist. Each member of the Council spent and got to know the person they would be sharing duties with. The two Betas hit it off quiet well, which was surprising to Rolus. His Beta could be a bit too uptight.
The two Gammas, Tamera and Zachariah, were still getting used to each other. They were both Pack Accountants too, so they were looking over each of the Pack's accounts.
Tamera was a bit reluctant with handing over the Pack's financial history.
Luke was not having it. He was not tolerating any reluctance or resistance from anyone. He was the one who wanted the merger to succeed. Any slight complaint, he made sure was addressed and everyone sorted out their issues.
He said when the merger happened, he didn't want any problems. He already made Rolus' life a living hell with all his past demands, especially the cure. He just wanted to right his wrongs. He didn't want Rolus to suffer anymore.
In the interim when designs of the new Pack House were finalised, Luke made sure most of the members of the two Packs lived a minimum of two weeks at the other's Packs, just to get used to each other.
There were always volunteers every two weeks. Rolus was just happy that everyone seemed to cooperate.
The House plans were finalized in two months, and most of the Pack members had rotated in each Pack. Everything seemed to be going according to plans.
As for Rolus and Luke, they were both busy too, but Luke made sure they had lunch and dinner together, and had another mandatory thirty minutes to spend time together.
They mostly talked about the future, or spent it getting reacquainted with each other for the umpteenth time. Luke said as long as they didn't have their mating ceremony, they were still dating.
Rolus had rolled his eyes, but the fondness in the expression did not go unnoticed.
"Still my mate," he had replied.
"Of course," Luke said. They were eating their lunch in Rolus' office.
"When do you think we should have the ceremony? After we have settled into the new Pack House?" Rolus asked. The thing was, they were still busy with the merger, construction had not begun, and their neighboring Packs were not officially informed of the new developments of the two Packs.
Their lawyers were busy with the Werewolf Council about the merger. The higher ups had to approve. Since Robert was no longer part of the Council, and Luke's parents were in the running for a spot in the Council, they assumed they had the merger in the pocket, hence all the preparations they've been doing.
It was a constant worry in both their minds that the merger might not be approved, but Luke assured him that he would make sure it happened.
To safeguard their success in obtaining the merger, Rolus did the one thing he never thought he would do.
He reached out to Perez, the man Luke had a short fling with, who claimed was Lucia's (Luke's twin sister) mate, and who threatened the safety of both their Packs.
He told him about the situation of Luke, and what they were busy with now.
When Luke lost his memories, Rolus made sure he did not have unnecessary contact with people that could disturb his life. He didn't want anyone to cause confusion in Luke's new normal.
Perez agreed to come down to their Packs, a bit excited, much to Rolus' annoyance.
He was coming in a week. With that out of the way, Rolus had fingers crossed Perez' parents would agree to assist with persuading the rest of the Council to the merger.
"It will take about a year to finish construction, Rolus. You sure you want to wait that long?" Luke had a sneaky smile, like he knew something Rolus didn't.
Realising what Luke was insinuating, Rolus was dying with excitement. "When do you want to have the ceremony?"
Luke grinned, the twinkle in his eyes a pleasure to witness. "In two months?"
Rolus didn't want to burst Luke's bubble, but two months was a short time to prepare for a mating ceremony. Unless Luke wanted a small ceremony, which was impossible because no one would agree to that. The union was going to be celebrated by two Packs, and they were very big Packs.
Rolus didn't want a small ceremony. He wanted their love to be celebrated by everyone. "Two months is a short time, Luke. I also can't wait to officially be mated to you, but it's a short time to arrange everything."
Luke's twinkle never dimmed, it just got brighter. "What if I say we already have four months?"
Rolus was confused. Luke took him out of his misery.
"I've been preparing, with the help of Diana and the others. I didn't want to stress you, especially when we are all busy preparing for the merger. I thought everyone deserved a break, and more hope that the merger is going ahead, if anyone was doubting. Our ceremony will cement everything."
If it was possible, Rolus would love his mate more than he already did. His love for his mate was maxed out.
"You are the best thing that's ever happened to me," Rolus said, loving the smile that wouldn't fade from Luke's face.
"And, we will start handing out invitations to the other Packs. I'll send you the invitations for your approval once Diana is done with them. I promise, it will be better than yours and Tamera's." Luke whispered the last part, which had Rolus chuckle a bit, but he was feeling guilt in how he nearly gave up his perfect mate.
When their lunch was over, they kissed briefly, then both made their respective ways to their outstanding duties.
