Trigger warning (mention of self harm)
We headed back to Demi's house at about four, after Maddie had been on some more rides. Adrenaline junkie!
Maddie sat in the back seat with me so she could 'sort out my social media'. My Instagram already had about 450 followers. Geez. Maddie had airdropped the photo Demi had got of her and I cuddled up on the bench earlier and I posted it as my first photo, tagging Maddie and Demi.
About 5 minutes after posting the photo my phone buzzed. Kaitlin was calling (she's my only friend from home, if you remember). All of her 'cool' friends were probably busy, so she had to fall back on me to entertain her. Literally this has happened so many times. I don't even know why she bothers with me. She's in with the cheerleader sort of crowd. And I'm just the loner who wears The 1975 band tees and has no friends. We're only 'friends' because we're in the same basketball and softball teams. I'm the captain. So I suppose that's why she's friendly with me. Otherwise I'd just get the coach to ditch her from the squad, she's not exactly talented at ball.
"Hey," I answered the phone, looking at Maddie and Demi apologetically because it was kind of rude to take a call when with other people, right?
"Oh. My. God!" I heard her scream down the phone. I held the phone slightly away from my ear to prevent early hearing loss. Maddie giggled, obviously hearing Kaitlin's outburst. It was pretty loud. "So Madison De La Garza posted this photo this morning and said her cousin now had Instagram..." I forgot to mention, Kaitlin is a massive Demi fan. Another reason why I used to hate her. Kaitlin won't shut up about her.
"Yeh?" My instinct was to try and lie my way out of this. I didn't want Kaitlin to know I'm related to Demi. I decided to play dumb. "Who's Madison De La Garza?" I smirked at Maddie beside me.
Demi and Mads shook their heads, laughing.
"She's Demi Lovato's sister!" Kaitlin started to screech again. "You should know that! BECAUSE YOU'RE FUCKING RELATED TO DEMI FUCKING LOVATO."
Demi was now shaking with laughter. I was nursing a damaged ear drum.
"Put her on speaker to Demi," Maddie whispered, "she'll die!"
"Yeh I guess I am." I admitted to Kaitlin. It was plain obvious. No point hiding it now, thanks to Maddie setting up my Instagram account. A series of 'oh my gods' and screams erupted from my phone.
"HEY KAITLIN?" Maddie snatched my phone from my hand and shouted down it. When the screams subsided somewhat. "This is Maddie. Saskia and I are with Demi right now. Would you like to talk to her?"
The line turned quiet.
"I think she died of shock!" Maddie laughed. "Kaitlin?" Maddie said into the phone again.
"Oh my Jesus." Kaitlin whimpered. I had to clamp my hand over my mouth to prevent myself from laughing. This was way too funny. Demi was just an ordinary person, ignoring the singing shit.
"So you want to talk to Demi?" Maddie reiterated.
"Yes. Oh my-" Kaitlin spluttered,
"You're torturing her!" Demi laughed, reaching round and taking the phone off Maddie and placing it on the dashboard.
"Hi Kaitlin, it's Demi Lovato here. I'm guessing you're a fan?" Demi giggled.
The car was silent.
"Kaitlin?!" I shouted.
An unrecognisable murmur came from Kaitlin's side.
"I think she's starstruck." Maddie laughed.
By this time we had pulled up to Demi's electric gates.
"Listen Kaitlin, we have to go but I'm sure Saskia will call you again and I'd love to chat to you then." Demi said politely.
"I-I love y-you." Kaitlin stuttered.
Maddie and I burst out into fits of giggles. This is a seriously over the top, 'Kaitlin sized' reaction. It was ridiculous how she was the most 'out there' girl there was but as soon as Demi got on the phone she turned into a blown away fan who couldn't say anything. Usually she could speak for America.
"Bye." Demi said cheerily and hung up.
"I'm so sorry!" I laughed, "she doesn't stop talking about you and I guess she was kind of shocked!"
"She was so cute. I love my Lovatics." Demi sighed, smiling happily.
"I can't believe you hadn't told her you were related to Demi already!" Maddie said,
"I dunno, she never asked so..." I replied. I never want extra attention and people being fake around me, trying to get to Demi. Plus, I'd never met Demi then, so me being related to her meant nothing to me until I met her a few days ago.
As we entered the front door, we were still all laughing about Kaitlin's insane reaction to Demi. My smile faltered as I saw Amber sitting at the kitchen island.
"Hey guys, how was your day?" Dianna walked in from the pantry, her arms full of food packets. I ran up to take some off the top, making her load a bit easier. "Thanks honey." She hugged me briefly as we set the stuff down on the counter.
"Shame you can't be helpful at home," I heard a very familiar voice mutter harshly. I said I didn't feel much anger towards Amber anymore earlier but my blood was now boiling.
"It was actually a really good day mom," Demi said loudly, cutting the tension and diffusing a retort which would escape my big mouth any second and probably start another fight.
"What are you making?" Maddie jumped up to sit on the counter, conveniently blocking the line of vision between Amber and I.
"A cake for lunch tomorrow! And before you ask, you two," she pointed at her two daughters, "are not helping!" Dianna laughed as Maddie pouted and Demi crossed her arms. I'm guessing cakes and Maddie and Demi wasn't a good mix?!
"Oh, Dem. Wilmer got back like ten minutes ago." Dianna said. I wasn't aware Wilmer had left...
Demi immediately shot out of the kitchen towards the stairs. There was a loud clatter moments later.
"I'm okay!" We heard a distant scream.
"Fucktard!" Maddie smirked, shaking her head. "Let's go get changed." Maddie dragged me out of the kitchen and up to her room.
As we walked past Demi and Wilmer's room. Maddie called out,
"We're next door, put a sock in it!" I giggled, remembering the first night when we'd busted 'Dilmer' whilst they were fucking.
"Madison, you're an asshole, you know that right?!" Demi's voice shouted back from through the shut door.
"They literally have separation anxiety, those two." Maddie muttered, walking into the bathroom and returning with two towels. "Not seeing each other for a day and then they can't keep their hands off each other!"
I made a gagging sound.
"Shower?" Maddie said, chucking me a towel.
Before entering the shower I used to get my blades from the bottom of my washbag and cut. But this time was different. I entered the shower and the lack of stinging surprised me.
It hadn't even crossed my mind to cut tonight. I had had a really good day and I was actually genuinely happy.
