"COMING!" she growled, irritation clear in her voice, and stomped to the door. She yanked it open—and saw...
Lucifer was standing there, fidgeting with his cane and staring at the floor. The moment the door opened, his head snapped up to meet her eyes.
"Hey."
"Hey," she replied, swallowing.
After the whole story Adam had told her. Lucifer knew Y/n would search more explanation to him, cause he should be informed of those type of mistake. The worst things is that when Charlie had told him the whole story, he had no idea what she was talking about. sure a few sinners had complaint they don't deserved being here, but they never was really a mistake. They were always people who did bad things, but couldn't face it. He didn't had any more explanation that make sense to him than that.
But he couldn't bring himself to talk to her.
He had been by her side after the incident. He had healed her. Yet the moment she woke up, he hadn't come to see her. There had only been a small note on her nightstand.
He had felt like shit since then. He was unhappy with the way he had treated their relationship. It had taken everything in him to push himself in front of this door.
"Can we talk?" he coughed after the sentence, not looking her in the eyes. She simply nodded and let him in. They sat down on her couch. "How... how have you been doing?"
She took a big draft of air into her lungs. "Like someone who just learned her parents were in hell by mistake before she died." Her voice was cold—cutting through the pleasant air Lucifer was trying to install.
He took off his hat, playing with it nervously. Deep down, he knew she would react like that; still, it surprised him that she actually did. "Y/n, I promise I didn't know."
"Of course you didn't," she snapped immediately.
"Y/n." He tried to take her hands, but she pulled them away right away.
"I promise I would have given everything for them to go to Heaven if I had known." She looked at him, her eyes analyzing every fragment of his expression. Disgust and anger were written all over her face.
He stared into her eyes, not looking anywhere else—trying to make her feel he was sincere.
"Maybe if you cared a bit more about the people around you, you would have known."
Her words stabbed like a knife in his chest. They were spilling out before she could even think. Hate was filling her veins.
"What?"
"King of Hell, but you don't care about your people. I never saw you even stand up for any of them! How would you have known my parents were down here? You never listen to any of them!" she yelled, standing up, her emotions taking over her completely.
"Y/n, you don't mean that. I've been trying my best!" He stood up as well, facing her, desperate to make her understand how he felt. He took a few steps toward her, his hands waving nervously around him in distress.
"The best of what? Locking yourself up in your castle?" Her eyes sharpened, her jaw tightened. Lucifer could see the big, thick wall she had put between them. Her words hit him, and he opened his mouth to say something—trying to find anything to say, anything strong enough—but nothing came out.
Tears were starting to form in his eyes. Because he knew a part of what she was saying was right. Especially after Lilith left... he had done nothing for Hell.
But he hadn't asked to be the King of Hell. He didn't—
...but he was.
"Dreams are sometimes too hard to defend, I—" He stopped when he saw Y/n's expression. She was already too closed off to the conversation. His words were going from one ear to the other. He looked around the room, trying to find anything that could convince her. Trying to find words strong enough to break those walls.
