''Vox. Let's end our deal. I found someone I truly care about, and I have to leave.''
Vox looked up from his computer, staring at the doorway where Y/N stood, her head held high.
''What? No, you can't do that.'' He scoffed, pushing himself off his desk and taking a step toward her.
''You can't leave just like that. We had a deal,'' he added, his voice trembling despite his attempt to keep it steady.
''Yes, I can,'' she replied without stumbling, her gaze lifting to meet his in open defiance.
His screen flickered once. Then twice.
''I can't continue this relationship—or our deal. I found someone better''
''There's no better, Y/N,'' he snapped. His brows knit together in confusion, his heart skipping a beat. No—she couldn't leave. She was finally his. Finally on his side.
It was too short.
He... couldn't let her go.
''Yes. I have someone else in my heart.'' His screen flickered for the third time. His hands was shaking.
''What about your parents, huh?!'' he snapped. ''You want them dead?!''
He forced a smile, a nervous chuckle slipping out. She couldn't leave him. She wouldn't dare. He still had the upper hand.
''I don't care about your stupid dream of heaven,'' she replied coldly. ''And he will protect my family when the time comes.''
' He?
Who was he? Who was she talking about?'
His blood ran cold.
Sweat trickled beneath his suit as his fists clenched at his sides. His claws dug into his own palms, tearing skin, blood dripping to the floor—but he didn't feel the pain.
''He?''
''Yes. I'm in love with Alastor.''
His eyes widened. A sharp ringing filled his ears as her figure blurred, the room tilting for just a second.
Alastor's smile flashed in front of him.
He couldn't even form a word. Alastor's laughter echoed relentlessly in his head.
He won.
He took something from him—again.
How dare he.
How fucking dare he—
''VOX!''
His head snapped up.
Valentino stood in front of him, leaning against the doorway of his office, hands gripping his shoulders as he shook him slightly. It took Vox a moment to realize it had all been a dream.
He exhaled sharply, sinking back into his chair and adjusting his suit, forcing his composure back into place.
''It's not like you to fall asleep at work,'' Valentino said, moving behind him and draping his arms around Vox's shoulders in a loose embrace.
Vox glanced up at him, still disoriented, the echo of Alastor's laughter lingering in his mind.
''I'm fine. I was just resting my eyes,'' Vox said, running a hand over his screen.
''Mmh. You look stressed, papi. I could take care of that,'' Valentino murmured, his hands kneading Vox's shoulders as he leaned down to whisper in his ear.
Vox shoved his hands away.
''I said I'm fine,'' he snapped, tension buzzing through his voice.
His eyes flicked toward Valentino, who merely sighed before settling into the chair across from him. He took a slow drag from his cigarette, the smoke curling lazily upward as he gave Vox a pointed, knowing look.
