Chapter Twelve

"So why'd you lie?" Ben asks once we are the only two in our dressing room.

"What?" I ask.

"You never get nervous before a show," he points out. "So, why did you tell Rachel that you were acting weird because you're nervous?" He asks.

"Okay, how did you catch onto that?" I ask shocked at how much he already figured out. "Did the fresh air knock some sense into you?"

"I don't know what you mean by that."

There's the Ben I know and love.

"But why did you lie to Rachel?" He asks.

I rest my elbows on the counter and rub my eyes with my palms.

"Because I can't tell her what's really bugging me," I say while clasping my hands together and propping my chin on them.

"Well, what is it?" He asks while buttoning up his shirt.

"It's Josh," I shake my head. "He's into her and I've been scared she's into him," I say staring at the floor. "What her friends said didn't exactly help," I shrug.

"But she's dating you," he says.

"So, that won't stop her from liking other guys," I say while changing my shirt.

"You should still tell her what's really bugging you," he says. "Maybe then she can shed some light on the whole situation," he says.

"I'm really bad about talking about stuff like this though," I say.

"You can at least try to talk about it," he says. "What harm could come from trying."

There is a knock on the door and I open it to see Rachel.

"You ready to go?" She asks, excitement evident in her voice.

"Yeah, just give me a second," I say. "Why don't you come in," I offer while walking back into the room.

"Well, I'm going to head out, don't want to leave the fansies waiting," Ben says while patting me on the back. "Now's your chance," he says quiet enough so Rachel can't hear.

"No, promises," I shrug. I look back to Rachel and see she's already taken a seat on the couch. "Are you excited for your first stage door?" I ask while fixing my hair in the mirror.

"Yeah, I'm kind of nervous though," she quietly says.

"Don't be," I say. "The fansies are going to love you," I assure her.

"I hope so," she mumbles.

I turn to face her and lean back on the counter.

"Can I talk to you about something?" I ask.

"Yeah, anything," she says.

I take a seat in the chair in front of her and stare down at my hands.

"Do you have feelings for Josh?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.

"No," she says. "Why are you so worried about Josh?" She asks.

"I don't know," I shrug. "I mean he's been your best friend for awhile, I mean a lot of best friends end up liking each other at one point," I shrug.

She grabs my hand and makes me look into her eyes.

"You have nothing to worry about," she says. "I only have feelings for you," she smiles. "Okay?"

"Okay," I smile. "Now let's get out there," I say while standing up, pulling Rachel up with me.

We walk hand and hand throughout the hallways but once we get to the door she drops my hand. I guess we still aren't telling people. Though that is understandable we've only been together for a few days.
