My eyelids start to peel open and sunlight floods in. Everything is blurry at first but soon my vision starts to clear. I look down to see I'm in a hospital bed wired to various machines. I'm not exactly sure why I'm here. I move my head to the side and look out to see the beautiful streets of Boston, for some reason I feel like I haven't seen them in forever. I look over to the corner of the room and see my mom asleep with her head on my dad's shoulder, he's asleep too.

When I first try to call out to them nothing comes out.

"Mom," I choke out, voice hoarse. "Dad."

They shake awake and are shocked to see me awake. They quickly run over to me and my dad calls for a nurse. My mom grabs my face and starts to cry.

"We thought we lost you," she sobs.

"What happened?" I ask my voice still raspy.

"You got in a bad car accident," my dad says placing a hand on my knee. "You've been in a coma for a couple of weeks." He's starting to tear up.

"Oh my gosh," I say. "How behind am I in school?"

This makes my parents lightly laugh.

"Don't worry about that," my mom says.

Just then a nurse walks in and my parents step back.

"Hi, Rachel," she sweetly says.

"Hi," I say.

"I'm going to check some stuff just to make sure you're okay," she says.

"She's awake?" I hear someone breathlessly say.

I look to the door way to see Josh panting in the doorway.

"Josh!" I smile still unable to speak above a whisper.

He looks over to me and grins from ear to ear, "Rachel," he breathes out before running over to me.

He cups my cheeks and kisses me, I feel like I haven't kissed him in years. Oh, how I've missed this.

"This is your boyfriend I presume," the nurse raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah," I blush.

"Cute couple," she says then turns her attention back to the monitors and starts to scribble things onto her clipboard.

Josh sits next to me on my bed and holds my hand.

"So what'd I miss?" I ask.

"All of winter break, and before you ask you aren't far behind in school and your early admit and scholarship to Michigan still stands," he says and I sigh in relief.
