Regular Conversations in the Ocean

"The ocean has always been our key," I pointed out. "How is this any different from usual?"

"Emma, we don't need you here preaching to kill us. Why don't you cut off someone's head elsewhere?" Katie asked with her usual annoyance. Emma smirked evilly, which reminded me of Queen Brooke's rare smile.

"Well, I would say yes, but I'm too interested in what you mean by 'the ocean is our key' to go away," she sighed casually. "You see, I'm not particularly fond of the ocean, but this is an awesome cliffhanger."

"Oh," McKenzie said in disappointment. "Well, I definitely shouldn't have created a cliffhanger, but whatever. I meant, Melody, that the ocean is seventy percent of your world and we could possibly use it to, you know, get Delilah's...Trident stuff. Like, scraping her hand against a sharp shell or something. I mean, I know it isn't the best idea, like, at all, but then we could actually finish the Trident!"

"Actually, whenever you accomplish this Trident hunt, I'm gonna take it away, so you better kiss your dreams goodbye...and I mean literally, for Melody anyways," Emma rolled her eyes. "Like 'Queen' Brooke sent you that lovey, mushy dream about your future boyfriend, right?"

"Well, I mean, I didn't intentionally mean to forget it, it just happened," I stuttered, at loss for words.

"Right, guys, but can we please go back to 'the ocean is our key,' which was what we were originally talking about?" McKenzie asked, anxious to explain further. "Okay, so I have another way that we could use the ocean as a guide - wow, that sounds like a line straight out of Bay Ty 2 - wait, you never watched it? Oh yeah, it's a Terra Meridian film - to our advantage: Surfing! I mean, I can't surf, but I saw a hot half-merman - very rare species, may I remind you - surfing at Mermaid Bay, and I won't be able to do it, but it's our guide to fun! And you guys will have to watch Bay Ty and Bay Ty 2 when you get back to United TM, because it's the best movie ever. Great movie to watch if you ever get asked out on a date too, because it has plenty of humor and cheesy phrases." When did McKenzie become a movie critic?

"Bay Ty 2 sure sounds like a fun movie to watch with my future boyfriend," I interrupted, "but I really have to get you back on track here. Surfing sounds okay, I guess, but why would we surf when we have a serious mission to get to, McKenzie? We have a job here, and I have high expectations about your behavior while on the hunt - and no, that's not just a teacher line."

"Okay, I'll give up on surfing. It was a stupid idea in the first place anyway, right?" McKenzie sighed.

"Good," I replied with satisfaction, which seemed to dismay her by tenfold. "Although I think those damask conch shells you brought here, a Mermaid Bay shell species, will help us more than a little bit on the quest, right?" McKenzie looked surprised when I mentioned her damask conch shells.

This time baby I'll be
Bulletproof.

I heard something along the lines of the lyrics to my favorite song. Probably some teenagers having a beach birthday party. I heard teens had wild boy-girl birthday bashes, and I was not looking forward to being invited to one.

"Nice song, never heard of it before," Katie noted, for the first time interested in something.

"Well, yes, the song is really legit, I agree, but damask conch shells from mermaids do not do anything," Emma laughed, but it was obviously fake. She was one of those people who were bad liars.

"It's called 'Bulletproof,' and I think damask shells do do something. Official documents are popular around here, right? This little thing I found when the lieutenant of the Royal Killers fell to the ground," I said, pulling a piece of papyrus right out of my pocket. It was soaking wet, as I was still treading seawater, but at least the printing didn't disintegrate - yet.

MERMAID BAY DISCOVERY RECORD #15: DAMASK CONCH SHELLS FOUND ON BEACH

Yesterday, on August 14 1963, a rare new discovery was found by the fairies: damask conch shells. This was a secret kept by mermaids for eternity, and now official fairies are in on the inside scoop of Mermaid Bay.
NOTE: mermaids are selfish. keeping SUCH a powerful object in their watery secrecy club? totally power hogs.
Damask conch shell subject was found washed up on Mermaid Bay Beach. It is currently undergoing experiments in the Fragile Magic Objects Study Lab. Currently, all we know is that it can control the orbit of Terra Meridian around the Sol, and our neighboring planet inhabitants call Earth. This is a very powerful power, as it also controls time on Terra Meridian.

The rest of the paper was ripped apart. The only words I could make out was "heir" and "gloves."

"Fine, I'll let you SEE the damask conch shells, but don't touch them. Even I have to wear gloves just to get them out," McKenzie warned, and pulling on her weird-colored gloves fiercely, she brought out three smooth pink shells. I couldn't resist their sparkle, and could almost feel the warmth rushing through my body, the words "Come, come here" echoing in my head....

And then I touched it. Nothing happened.

"Mel?"

A/N: Short chappy, I know. And I don't care. I'm thinking about writing another book, but NO. I'm not writing one. Why? Because then I'll go crazy over the other book and forget all about this one. :(
