"I'm sorry, sir, but I do believe that your father has retired for the evening."

"Just open the damn gate." He stared at me, searching my face for any type of hesitation. When he found none, he swallowed hard and looked towards the other guard giving him a nod of approval.

The drive here only served to fuel my rage, to have my thoughts spiral out of control. Robert had pushed every single limit possible.

My mother had always been very transparent with me; I was well aware of my parents' loveless marriage and the fact that Robert had a woman in his past with whom he had fallen in love. I just never imagined that the universe would play such a sick joke and make me fall for the woman's daughter, the woman he murdered without remorse.

Robert was many things: a liar, a manipulator, a bad father, a terrible husband, and I had come to terms with all of it. But now knowing that I shared a murderer's DNA, that was the cherry on top.

I couldn't park my car fast enough. I rang the doorbell with urgency and waited for an answer. The wait was excruciating, but soon the door flew open, revealing a concerned-looking Henry on the other side.

"Henry, where is my father?" I asked, pushing past him and walking inside.

"Is everything alright? He has gone off to bed already, but I can announce yo-"

"That won't be necessary, I know where it is." Before he could get another word in, I practically flew up the stairs, taking two steps at a time.

His bedroom came into view at the end of the long hallway, and my jaw ticked in anticipation. When I finally reached his double doors, I twisted the handle open and stepped inside.

There he laid in the dimly lit room, sleeping soundly as his entire life wasn't built on atrocities. I slammed the door shut, nearly knocking it off its hinges. His body snapped upright as he looked around, completely disoriented, before his eyes landed on me.

"Jesus, fuck, what the hell do you think you're doing her-" Before he had the chance to finish that sentence, I was charging at him. Adrenaline and rage coursed through me as I grabbed hold of him by the collar of his silk pyjama set, dragging him out of his bed. Letting go only to have his body drop before my feet, "What the fuck-"

His voice. His fucking voice made my fucking ears bleed. I want him to stop. fucking. talking.

My body dropped almost as soon as her opened his mouth, catching him off guard when the weight of my body trapped him against the wooden floor. I never experienced this type of anger before. I was seeing red. I didn't know if I'd be able to stop once I started.

But still, I threw my first punch.

Then a second.

And a third.

My fists came in contact with him, time and time again, despite his attempts to block me.  Pained grunts left his lips, giving me exactly what I wanted.

I wanted him to feel even a sliver of the pain he had caused. To Kristal. To Alec. To Iris. My mother. Me. I wanted him to feel it all.

"Guards! Guards!" His voice came out panicked when he realised that I wouldn't be stopping after the first few punches.

I stopped for a moment, grabbing him by his collar to keep him trapped beneath me. "You killed her, you killed Iris Anderson."
