"He should have been back by now," My feet aimlessly carried me as I paced around the living room. "I should have gone with him, I should have been there in case things escalated."

Thea got up just as I passed the couch she was on for the hundredth time, gently gripping my arm to stop my movements. "Kris, hey, breathe okay?" She said softly, pausing for a beat or two, silently encouraging me to take a few deep breaths. Which I did. But it didn't help ease the worry. "You did the right thing by letting him go on his own. It's not every day that you find out your father is a murderer; he had to do this on his own. Talk to him, try to understand  and come to terms with it."

"But it's been over three hours he said he'd be back in two," I protested. I knew that he had every right to speak with his father in private about the revelation but that wasn't the problem. My fear was that Robert would do something to retaliate; that man had proven that he would do whatever it took to keep this secret at bay.

"And I've been calling him but it's going straight to voicemail." Thea shot Cole a glare as soon as the words left his mouth, narrowing her eyes in a way that said 'don't make things worse'.

"I'm gonna need both of you to stop being so pessimistic. We are not going down that road. So what if he's still not home? That doesn't mean anything, maybe the talk went on for longer than he expected, maybe he went to a bar to decompress, maybe he's at a park bench somewhere," She exclaimed, trying to be the voice of reason in the room because Cole and I had clearly given ourselves up to fear. "My grandma always said that bad news travels fast. Aiden is fine and I'm sure he's on his way home as we speak." She ended her statement with a reassuring smile.

"I agree with Theadora," My dad emerged from the kitchen with a tray of four teacups filled with his trusty chamomile tea. "We cannot let panic overtake us,"

She guided me to sit on the couch with her as my dad brought over the tea. I wish I could say that their words were enough to ease my worry, to take away the tightness in my chest but it simply wasn't. Today, he showed me just how conniving and calculating he was. I feared that man. I feared for my Aiden's safety.

Thea handed me a cup and I began to take a sip, only to stop before the liquid even met my lips. "What if he hurts him? You saw what he was about to do to you today, Thea."

"He wouldn't do something so stupid. All of us here are witnesses; if anything were to happen, all hell would break loose. A man who protects his image the way he does, he wouldn't dare risk it."

My dad settled beside me and leaned in to place a soft kiss on my temple. "It's gonna be okay, Birdie."

I nodded slowly, forcing myself to bring the cup back to my lips and take a sip. I knew that I was probably being over paranoid, the day's events had taken everything out of me. But when I looked at Cole, who sat on the couch opposite mine, I knew that I wasn't the only one who couldn't stomach this situation. Couldn't see the light in any of it.

I sipped my tea, hoping that it would calm my nerves in any way possible. When I reached the halfway point, I couldn't take it anymore. I got up and placed my cup down on the centre table.

Something in my gut told me that something wasn't right.

"No, I can't. I'm going over there."
