Dimension X

N I N E T E E N

My whole body and mind is transfixed on one thing: open the portal. I watch them constantly press the enter key. Very slowly I feel my body agree and tire as the portal stretched. I hope that death is peaceful. I look at everybody who looks content. They all are strapped to something except the science guy. He is switching on sirens and crap.

"We have to warn people to hold on to anything they can." He says. He continues pressing buttons.

In minutes I can barely stand up or see straight. Not to mention the roof is crumbling. The portal must be right above us and expanding. Quick. If only I could stop it.

"Sir her vitals are dropping. I don't think her body can handle the whole earth."

"Keep pressing that button." His cold dark eyes settle on me. "She will be fine."

"Please stop." I choke out.

Of course they do not listen. They continue pressing buttons and clinging for their lives. The ropes attached to parts of my body begin to loosen. I am now feeling the grates called ground digging into my knees. I look pleadingly in the corner where that guy ran out. I see Luca... Luca? Wait what?

He just stands there holding up the guy who tried to save me. I hear yelling behind him. I can almost place those voices. I look at the people in front of me still pressing buttons. Everything is spinning and I am now laying down. From here I see the hole that was once a ceiling.

I tilt my head slightly to see people pushing through Luca and that one dude. My eyes are getting heavier by the second. I guess death can't be so bad. My eyes begin to close as pure light develop my peripheral vision.

"Stay with us, Sky! Stay awake!" I hear a familiar voice.

My eyes stay shut despite what the person just told me to do. I feel something over my chest. Probably they are checking for a heart beat. I want to hold on but can't. I just killed my brother, my cousin and anyone else I have ever cared for. This would hang over my shoulders forever. That was the only portal I knew how to open.

I feel someones hands cupping my face and hear a soft voice, "Stay with me, Skylar. If no one else." I do not respond. In order to do that I need that command to be typed in. I am too weak to fight it. "Sky, I am so sorry. I am an idiot. Just come back to me. Please."

"I... can't. Type..... Button." I mumble out. I am slipping away. The last thing I hear is this person shouting at everyone in the room.

// Jack's POV//

I kissed her. That was the last thing I did. It has been two weeks and she hasn't woken up. She told me to type something. If only she had been more specific. Luca refused to talk and you could tell he knew something. He was keeping it from us.

"I can help if you would listen." This guy Rhett says.

"Shut up!" I yell. "She is half dead and you helped do it."

"I tried to stop them believe me." He says.

"Fellas you aren't solving anything. Rhett can you save my sister?" Sadie asks him. I personally do not think we should trust him.

"Yes." He responds secretively.

"Then speak now." She says grabbing the color of his shirt.

"You have to type in the order of release. But she could die."

"What?!" Sadie and I demand.

"She can live while attached to the system. Once released it will take a miracle. A secret perhaps." He says looking at Luca. "I have waited to weeks like she requested. Can we begin now?"

He smiles brightly, "Lets begin shall we. There is an alternative universe called Dimension X. It can sustain anything and keep them alive. She needs to keep the portal open a little longer so she can be sucked in herself. It is the only way she can survive. Out of fear and love for the worlds they were forcing her to save and destroy, she created Dimension X. She made it for this reason only."

"I am not sending her up into that!" Jack yells.

"We will do it." Sadie says quickly before I can say more.

"I will not let her go up by herself. She isn't strong enough to take me."

"If you actually love her Jack then you have to let her go. She is my sister. I would like her to live if that is alright with you." She says so matter of factly.

I walk over to Sky. Bending down I press a kiss on her forehead. I will never see her again. Sadie signals for them to start. Luca presses more buttons than I can count. They have Sky's slightly unconscious body standing up.

"Wait!" Sadie cries out to them. "Leave her a note, Jack. At least let her know. She deserves to know."

"I can't. It is better this way." I say looking down. "Press enter." And they do.

I just never got to tell her that I loved her. That I made a mistake.

// Sky's POV//

My eyes are free to open. The first thing on my mind was what happened. Where I am though is different. I look around. It all looks so beautiful. The grass and flowers even the willow tree. I feel a little hazy as I walk towards the tree. I lay under the tree and just sit. The sunset wherever I am is beautiful. If this is what after death is then I am fine with it. I feel in my pockets and see a note. It was Noa's. Maybe I should go there. Maybe one day.

How about right now?

I wish. I am dead remember?

Focus really hard on each word and number okay?

Okay.

So I do as I am told. Slowly the world bends and twists to my advantage. I am still under a willow tree but this one is dying. It is raining and there are a big group of people. I see Noa crying by a grave. She looks at me sadly.

"You came." She says quietly. "Last time I saw you you said for me to give you this." She hands me a book.

"Thanks?" I am about to ask more about this when a familiar face shows itself. "Luca? What are you doing here?"

"Supporting my girlfriend. She is older than me."

"By a month." She half heartedly laughs.

"And twenty tomorrow." Luca kisses her.

"Wish I was twenty-one."

"Eh, you do not need to ever be drunk. You know that." He kisses her nose. So cute.

"Yeah I guess. I hope you figure things out, Skylar." She mumbles and they turn to leave.

I open the book and a note falls out. Written by none other than Jack. I just look at it. The letter terrifying me.

By the time you get this I have already lived without you for a while. I want you to know that I massively screwed up. I have always loved you. I saw you kiss Luca so I kissed Danica in front of you. I will see you again. Hopefully more soon for you. Remember to punish me for a few good months. Nineteen to be exact. Just come back to me. Please.

And one day I will. I will see him again. Slowly I go back to my tree and lay underneath it. I try to process everything before I remember the book. I look at the cover and the binding as well before I flip through some of the pages. I see a name on the first page. My eyes bulge and my heart sorta stops. It was my mothers. She possessed this gift. This was her journal. And I can travel through the vortex into any time period.

I turn around and run through the tree. The portal snaps open and close easier than before. Most likely this is because I have my mind on one thing and one thing only. Seeing Jack again. I heard and felt everything he said and did. I just thought I was in a state of death. I didn't want proof I wanted him.

"Jack." I say as I appear right behind him.

He whips around clearly clinging to the hope that it was me.

"Blondie?" He says quietly. I am starting to like this name.

He envelopes me in his arms. I push him away a little. "Hi."
