You know how you see someone getting shot in a movie and they make it look dramatic, almost poetic. The person slowly falls as a beautiful aria plays in the background as doves slowly fly to the sky. Unfortunately, when you actually get shot, it's nothing like that. Instead of falling gracefully, I managed to fall somewhere I never wanted to be on top of Steven. Fucking Steven.
I never knew someone like Steven would sacrifice themselves for anybody let alone me. I thought we were nemesis, he is the Doofenshmirtz to my Perry. Turns out, he doesn't hate me after all, and maybe he isn't as bad as I thought. He's just an annoying asshole.
"Not even kidding, when you so rudely landed on top of me with your oversized bubble head, I heard you squeak chipmunk. I really did, you can believe it or not." He has been at this shit ever since I was moved at home. Under strict advice from the doctor, I can't move around much. That means no walking, no lifting, no breathing, no blinking and no shooting Steven as he continues to annoy me, knowing I can't do anything about it.
"Keep up with your bullshit Steven, he isn't going to be down forever, and I think he can still take you." Bash throws he comment over his shoulder as he slowly feeds me my soup. It seems to be the only thing that doesn't upset my stomach with all the pain meds they have me on.
"I'm keeping a count of all the insults; I'll make him pay ten folds when I'm better." Bash smiles as he kisses my forehead.
"I know baby, and we all are looking forward to that day." He says with a smirk as he sneers his nose up at Steven.
Steven puts his hands up in surrender. "I'm just speaking the truth. Don't they always say, 'don't shoot the messenger?"
Bash laughs gently as he carefully gives me juice from my cup.
"That's true, unless the messenger is a dumb ass like you." I instantly choke on my juice, coughing as Bash pats my back carefully, taking a napkin to wipe my mouth before kissing my nose.
Steven looks at us in disbelief. "Is this any way to treat your savior? I went out of my way, to risk my life. And this is the thanks I get? Oh, the humanity, I don't have to will to live. I think I am going to die from heartbreak." Steven dramatically grabs his chest as he falls on the carpet, still moaning and groaning.
The other two Steven's walk past the room before stopping and looking down at their brother, giving us a small wave looking at Steven again before shaking their heads and moving on. You would think they pissed in his Cheerios. "And now my brothers have turned their backs on me. My heart is shattered, nobody loves, nobody!"
I hide my laugh behind a cough before answering. "Nurse Susan sure loved you from what I heard."
Steven sits straight up still grabbing his chest. "Ah, Nurse Susan. She has the purest heart out of any nurse I have ever had the pleasure of pleasuring in a hospital bed."
My mouth drops in disbelief as Bash so kindly closes it for me. "Tell me he's joking. Tell me he didn't really fuck the nurse IN the hospital." I ask Bash, still looking at Steven.
"Unfortunately, he's not. The guys and I walked in on it. I still have nightmares."
"It was the least I could do after she gave me some top shelf narco while I was in there. Kept me high as a kite." He says after stretching out and laying on the floor. I don't know how he looks so comfortable, I mean we were just shot less than five days ago. I can hardly move let alone try to lay in the floor. In hindsight, I was shot twice while he was only shot once.
On a different note, Bash has been so attentive since we have been home. He won't let me life a single finger, granted I have been beyond grateful. He handles all of my bandage changing, bathroom breaks, feedings. He even helps me clean and change my clothes every night. He has proven to me that accepting his proposal was my best idea. But he is hiding something from me.
He doesn't think I noticed, but he is stressed; more so than usual. Something big is coming and it has the whole house shaken up. Bash is trying to keep me distracted with his attention to everything happening outside of the room. He doesn't think I have noticed the hordes of people that have sudden arrived. Or that he is constantly monitoring his phone with different surveillance videos, switching between in and around the house.
Recently I have had to pretend to be asleep in order to get more information. I have learned that security has been increased around the house, his offices and the shore side warehouses. I have also learned that although Steven is my main bodyguard, I actually have two more that will operate in the background.
He seems to have forgotten that I have been working hard to prove myself capable to stand by his side. I can shoot; I can fight I can protect myself. I may not be a trained assassin as some of the guys are, but I can hold my own long enough for someone to get to me. I'm not helpless; he just won't see that.
Rolling my eyes at Steven's mess, I am brought back to the present as Bash gently runs his knuckles against my cheek.
"Where did your mind wonder to there?" He stares at with me concern. I shake my head dismissively. "Well, speaking of narcotics, it's time for yours." He reaches into the bedside table to pull out my three medicine bottles.
"I'm starting to think you like to dope me up to distracted Bash." His hand stills, as his eyes slowly meets mine. "When are you going to tell me what's really going on?"
Bash releases a deep sigh before taking out my correct dose from each bottle. He hands me the three pills then a glass of water from the table. "War is coming. I sent a direct message to Daniel to drag him out of his hiding. If we can't get to him then we will bring him to us. One way or another I'm ending this."
I quickly swallow my pills before resting back on my pillows. "Couldn't you have waited until I was better to start something this big? I wanted us to be in this together."
Bash looks away before running his fingers through his hair. "Or was that your plan? You wanted this to happen while I was down so I couldn't get involved, right."
Bash shakes his head before leaning in, kissing my lips gently. "You're too smart for your own good, you know that?"
I smirk, shrugging slightly. "I'm a librarian." He laughs before kissing me again.
"That and many other things. My wife being the most important. Which is why, I don't want you going anywhere near this fight. I will do everything in my power to keep you safe."
I can't keep the frown off my lips. "As your HUSBAND, it is my job to protect you too. We are in this together, that's what partners are for."
He cups my face gently as he runs his thumbs under my eyes carefully. "I love you, more than life. If something were to happen to you-"
"It won't." I cut in quickly, placing my hands over his." Nothing will happen to me, and you wanna know how I know. It's because I have you, and the Steven's and Stoff. And now I have Father Criss and everyone else that I have been so fortunate to meet since falling into your life. You have given me the family that I have always wanted. You helped heal my heart after I lost my house.
You showed me how amazing the world outside of my library can be. I will forever be grateful to you for that. And I will spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you, Sebastian. Together, we will take on whatever comes our way, I promise you that."
Bash gives me the biggest smile as he wraps his arms around me, kissing me slowly before pulling away. He rests his forehead against mine-but then we are interrupted by the annoying sounds of sniffles.
"That was the cutest fucking thing I have ever seen in my life." He profusely wipes away his tears with the bed sheet. "You guys are beyond couple goals let me tell you." He starts a slow clap, and I can't help but to laugh.
"Fuck off Steven." Bash mumbles as he kisses my forehead. Before he can kiss my lips, his phone starts ringing. Bash answers on speaker and the voice on the other end has by blood running cold. The color from his face begins to drain as his eyes land on me. "My turn Bash. Check mate."
The call ends as quickly as it starts and suddenly the bedroom doors slams open as Stoff and the other two Steven's come into the room. "The library is on fire." My breath hitches as black spots fill my vision. Bash calling my name was the last thing I heard before everything went dark.
