To say it's been a busy morning is an understatement. Between trying to figure out who could have burned down Evan's house, and doing everything I can to make Evan feel at home; I'm a bit spent. But it is all worth. I manage to get a few leads on the arson, which it has been confirmed to be. I decided to leave my home office and head to the kitchen to grab him some breakfast.
When I get to the kitchen door's I hear what sounds like laughter coming from inside. I step inside to see Evan sitting at the kitchen island having a cup of coffee while talking with my head cook, Ms. Bonnie, Ms. B for short. She has been with me since I lived with Father Criss. She is literally the best cook, even if I may be a little biased. She is even the aunt to the Steven's. She raised them since they were little and couldn't part with them when they came to work for us. She has been a mother to all of us knuckle heads growing up. I even think Father Criss might have had a few nights with her, which has made all of us a little uncomfortable.
Evan is laughing, which is something I didn't think I would see for a long while. Ms. B has a habit of brightening the mood when you are feeling down. She is truly a gem. Walking into the room they both turn and look at me, Evan gives me the biggest smile. I take a seat next to him and Ms. B slides me a cup of coffee, two creams and two sugars just how I like it.
"Give me just a few more minutes and I'll have breakfast served." She smiles softly and turns back to the stove. I run my fingers through Evan's hair softly and he leans into my touch. "How are you feeling? Did you get enough sleep?"
A somber look takes over his face. "I still can't believe I've lost everything. I'm honestly not sure how I feel. It's hard to process everything." I press a kiss to his temple and wrap an arm around his shoulders.
"I know it's a lot to take in love, but I promise I will be by your side throughout all of this. We will figure everything out, together." He gives me a small smile and leans into my side. I wish I could take away all of this pain. I try to start thinking of ways I can brighten his mood, when I hear voices coming up the hallway. The kitchen doors swing open as the stevens come into the room. Ms. B smiles softly at her nephews then shakes her head at their antics, as she sits two plates full of a stuffed omelet ham, cheese and sausage with hashbrowns on the side.
"Next thing I know chocolate syrup is everywhere, one of the dancers is missing her prosthetic leg, and a baby calf was knocking over the spaghetti sauce fountain. No joke, it took my buddy Ray two hours to get all of the bubbly foam out of his ass. But I guess that's just the kind of things that happens at a six year old's birthday party." All eyes are on Steven and mouths are agape.
I shake my head and stand to grab covers and a tray or mine and Evan's plates. "I'm not doing this shit with him today. Evan will you join me on the deck for breakfast?"
"Yep." Evan quickly stands and grabs our drinks and follows me towards the side doors. Steven stays on some bullshit, and I just want a nice relaxing morning with my wifey. I sit our plates down on the patio table and take the glasses from Evan, placing them by our own plates. I pull out Evan's seat and help him sit.
"Was Steven really serious back there?" He takes a bite of his omelet and looks up at me. "Wow this is amazing."
"Yeah Ms. B is a great cook. As far as Steven goes, who really fucking knows at this point. He always comes up with the most ridiculous stories with his buddy Ray that nobody has ever met." I can't help the sigh that leaves my lips. Fucking Steven. "I'll try my best to keep him as far away from you as possible. There is no telling what bullshit he will have you into."
Evan laughs and flicks his wrist dismissively. "I'm sure he's harmless, he seems fun. I can't wait to get to know everyone." I smile and nod, famous last words.
