Silence of the Trees

The lack of noise surrounds me
It eats away at me
Like the insects feed on the trees
Yet the silence brings me peace

Not an animal in sight
Just you and me tonight
In the woods with the breeze
Feeling the silence of the trees

Unhappy about the quiet
You are unable to deny it
The silence makes you want me
But I don't know who to be

You break the silence with your words
Pierce through me like screeching birds
Take off everything you say
My smile fades away

Not again I tell you
You say it's what you want to do
I look at the leaves
Acting as if you can't see me

I try to listen for the silence in the trees
But you no longer see anything but me
Not for who I am
Just the thought of me bare again

I told you no
And that you should go
So I could finally be in peace
With the silence in the trees

So you leave me be
And now you truly see
That all I really need
Is the silence to surround me
