What She Needs

They tell me we don't need feminism
But what about the girl on the street
She minds her own business
Until there's a man she meets
He whistles at her
He touches her
She tries to run and hide
They told her she won't need feminism
What they told her was a lie

They tell me feminism doesn't matter
But what about that boy in class
He jokes around with friends
Saying who he'd "do" or pass
He sees women as objects
As if we don't exist, or that we're just pretend
They told him feminism doesn't matter
But they were wrong again

They tell me equal rights are pointless
But what about those lonely girls
The ones as sex slaves suffering
In what we call the third world
They are looked upon as less
Worthless if you will
They are forced into this mess
By men who use them for a thrill
Those men were told equal rights are pointless
What they were told could kill

They tell me feminism is of no use
Tell that to the girl on the stand
Trying to explain her story
With her unbearable shaky hands
The man who took away her safety
He stares her in the eyes
The judge asks her what had happened
But she doesn't know what to say
Fearing she will be accused of lies
They told her feminism was of no use
But then she realized

She needs feminism to breathe
To live her happy life
She needs it for those girls
The ones threatened with a knife
She needs equal rights
She needs them to keep safe
To help her sleep at night
She needs it every day
She needs feminism
Something no one can take away
