The university was never calm
In the middle of the night
All the students inside drinking
Some getting in fights

Emma returns to the dorms
Walks inside her room
To find her roommate Lila hanging
From the ceiling fan of doom

In utter shock
Emma collapsed on the ground
All the drunk teens looked out
Wondering "what was that sound?"

John walked over
To find Emma on the floor
He then saw Lila hanging
And ran back out the door

He dialed the police
They said they'd be there soon
All the students stood outside
Under the bright full moon

John told the cops what he saw
They carried Emma out
Then down came Lila
The police claimed "suicide no doubt"

Once Emma gained consciousness
She told the nurses it was not true
That her roommate was murdered
Suicide wasn't something she would do

The nurses thought she was crazy
From all the drugs she had
But she wasn't lying
Emma almost went completely mad

Her parents came to pick her up
Said they were so sorry for her loss
Said they'd take her to a psychologist
That happened to be her mother's boss

Emma said it wasn't suicide
That the police had been wrong
Her parents ignored what she said
And just told her to be strong

Emma ran from her parents arms
The police had to know
That Lila would never do this
That there was a killer on the go

She walked into the station
With her head very tall
She spoke to the detective
She told him it all

That Lila was planning her future
A husband, kids, and a degree
She had her life together
She was extremely happy

Never once did Lila seem sad
She always had a smile on her face
The police man told Emma she was wrong
Emma called him a disgrace

She found a new detective
Maybe she would listen to the story
Detective Smith wanted details
Even though it could be gory

Emma told her everything
From the color of the rug to Lila's shoe
Detective Smith believed Emma
Said there was investigating to do

Emma was very impatient
So she looked for clues on her own
As she illegally searched the dorm room
She heard the ring of Lila's phone

The police must have left it behind
This was evidence indeed
There was four new messages
Emma knew she had to read

She typed in the password
The room number 113
She saw the four messages
The words said had been mean

A boy named Ryan was angry
With something Lila had done
He threatened her life
Even said he had a gun

Emma didn't know his last name
She had to find out
She brought the phone to the station
To see what Ryan was all about

Detective Smith found who he was
To the university she went
She dragged him by his arm
To the jail cell he was sent

They discovered Ryan was a dealer
Lila got mixed up in the trouble
She was buying drugs
Ryan was trying to charge her double

Lila knew the going rate
For a few grams of weed
So she refused to buy from him
She was a customer he would need

Ryan said she signed a contract
That she'd only buy from him
She said she would stop smoking
But her ending was still grim

Lila was a stubborn girl
Never liked being told what to do
Ryan slipped a drug in her drink
And no one ever knew

He took her back to the dorm
Waited till she was knocked out
He then hung her from the fan
Guess he had no doubt

He told Detective Smith everything
Emma was finally at peace
She told Lila's family
Her mothers frown turned to a crease

They all hugged Emma
Because she knew all along
That Lila would never commit suicide
That the police had been wrong
