A/n This is an idea I had for a story. Hope you like it!
Merida POV
"We can't be!" I yell as I stare in horror at the flame forming on my father's palm.
"I'm afraid it's true Merida." my mother says softly. "We're not like the others." she holds her hand out, creating a beautiful, blue snowflake.
"Why do we live here then?" Jack, my brother, screams from beside me "Edgmead isn't the place for Fire and Ice weavers!" Hot tears flow down my cheeks.
"You have to hide your true powers." My father says glumly "conceal them."
"Wear these at all times." Mother says firmly. She hands me a ruby pendant and Jack a Sapphire wristband. "These will help you hide your powers but it's up to you to keep them fully hidden. We have." she gestures to herself and Father.
I look over to Jack his face is stained with tears and his lip trembles. "We need some air." He says grabbing my wrist and exiting the house.
We make our way to our horses, Angus and North. My horse, Angus, a powerful, black shear horse with a loving spirit. Jack's, North, a slightly smaller, white thoroughbred. We mount them and ride away as fast as we could, deep into the forest to the hideout only us and our two other friends know about.
We slide off our saddles landing on the fresh, green grass with a soft thud. I slump myself at the foot of a large oak tree set in the middle of a wide clearing. Jack perches on the rope swing dangling from one of the broad branches. Here was the only place we could be ourselves and keep a distance from the hustle and bustle of the town.
"I can't believe we're... we're..." I break down into tears, my shoulders pulsing with each sob.
"It makes sense though," Jack says in deep thought. "I guess we were the only ones in our class without powers, other than Punz of course. We were trying so hard to unleash the Earth power we never had!"
"You're right," I snivel "we're just gonna have to hide our powers before someone finds out."
"Agreed." Jack nods, taking a seat beside me.
A rustle in the bushes catches our attention. We quickly wipe away our tears as Rapunzel, one of our other friends, runs into the clearing. Her face is red and her breath short.
"What's up Punz?" I ask concerned.
"Don't tell Hiccup," she orders nervously. "I was walking through the woods when I stumbled across a witch's cottage. The witch asked what I wanted most in the world and I said that I wanted powers. I feel so left out at school. She gave me this vile of purplish liquid that I drunk instantly..." she pauses and stutters. "I j-just tested it out and... it wasn't what I wanted. The witch has put me into danger!" she opens her hand forming a swirling mist.
"She gave you the air element?" I ask in surprise.
"Yeah." Punz whispers.
"Well," Jack begins. "You're not the only one in danger." He opens his hand and concentrates. He creates a light blue snowflake much like mother did. I do the same forming a flame like my dad.
Rapunzel gasps. "How are we gonna hide this from Hiccup?"
"I dunno," I reply truthfully, "But we're gonna have to try."
Another rustle in the bushes arouses and reveals a rather breathless Hiccup. "Quickly!" he yells "the elements are at war! Waterwick! Fallea! Ashtrakan! Edgmead! They're all against each other! My father's leading the Edgemead army and we need your help, even if you don't have powers!"
I look to Jack. How were we supposed to keep our powers concealed? I'd heard from our element lessons that power is strengthened by anger. You can't get any more anger than when you're in battle. I sigh. "Come one then."
Hiccup's Dad, Stoick the Vast, was the Cheif of Edgmead. He was the strongest Earth weaver we had. His son had received equal amounts of power that he strengthened each and every day as he would soon take his father's place as Cheif.
We arrive at the battle field.
The four colours of the elements blend together. Purple, Red, Green, Blue. All the elements fighting against each other instead of alongside. "Do all you can." Hiccup says before running into the battle and standing by his father."
"What do we do?" Rapunzel asks.
"We fight back!" Jack says, taking her hand.
"We'll fight like we used to in class. We never used power then, did we?" I ask "We just need to be careful. Now we know what power we have we're able to use it. Just fight against it all you can." I say whilst grabbing a bow and sheath of arrows. "Besides, any power other than Earth coming from someone wearing green isn't going to go down well." They nod in response and grab their weapons before charging into battle.
I'd taken out a fair few people, as did my Dad. He was also 'powerless' as he didn't posses the Earth power and concealed his true element, as did my mum. He fought with his bare hands taking down huge numbers. That was why he was Stoick's second in command.
All of a sudden, I see Hiccup cowering on the floor beneath an angry Ashtrakan citizen. A fire weaver. I sprint towards them noticing Jack and Punz doing the exact same thing. We stand between them and unleash what we'd promised to conceal. Our elements. A flash of bright light appears as red, blue and purple blends together before sending the Ashrakan flying.
The battle stops.
All eyes are on us. I gulp as I look helplessly at my hands. I'd failed. I turn to see Hiccup looking at us like we're monsters. "You're one of them?" he asks. He receives no reply. He rushes into the forest away from the battlefield and away from us. "I trusted you." his voice rings through my mind. I let him down. We let him down.
I don't fight when a pair of hands grabs me roughly by the shirt or when I'm thrown into a cell along with Jack and Punz. I had no will to fight. I'd lost it all.
I'd lost him...
A/n There will be a part 2! Sorry for anyone who wanted a part 2 for betrothal, I had no ideas for it. Hope you liked this one shot and part 2 on its way.
See ya then
