Time must have passed but Lyn didn't feel it; she didn't feel anything but unyielding, agonizing, pain. She might have cried out but there was also the chance that her voice had been too weak to make a sound.

Then, suddenly, the weight lifted from her chest and the pain melted from jagged ice until there was barely a drop of cold water in her soul. Her head cleared and when she opened her eyes the world no longer hurt.

Lyn pushed herself up on her forearms and was surprised at how easy it was and how her strength felt as if it had never left her in the first place. Her brain was spinning, still adjusting from the blinding pain to the freedom of wellbeing. But soon enough, she reached the obvious conclusion for why she no longer felt like death warmed over.

The dagger was gone. Elijah was back.

A smile spread across her face as she was flooded with joy. Before she could call out or rush downstairs to see where her soulmate was, there was a rush of air and the man she sought was standing in front of her.

Lyn's smile widened into a grin and her eyes sparkled with giddiness when she met Elijah's eyes. His were full of relief and joy and sparkled brightly under the overhead chandelier. "Hi," She said breathlessly.

Elijah smiled at her, a true, beaming smile and quickly took a seat at the edge of the bed. "How are you? I can only imagine the pain you've endured since I've been daggered. Emalyn, I'm deeply sorry for what you have been–"

Lyn loved the sound of his voice but suddenly, she just wanted him to stop talking. The apologies were sincere but completely unnecessary. So, naturally, she did what anyone would do when they needed to silence the man they were falling for. She closed the gap between them and pressed her lips against Elijah's.

He seemed to startle for a moment before completely melting into the kiss, returning it with a gentle passion that only increased the fluttering of Lyn's heart.

When they pulled away, Lyn swore she had never been happier once in her life. Elijah, too, looked elated and as if he was in a dreamlike state. As if she was the personification of his dreams. He certainly was the personification of her dreams.

His hand rose and gently met the side of her face, his touch feeling like heaven. Before they could get too happy, Elijah tensed and looked behind him. Lyn followed his gaze and found that Klaus was staring at them from where he stood in the doorway. His eyes were a swirling mix of guilt, relief, and awkwardness, dragged down by a deeper emotion that Lyn could identify to be a deep serenity that she doubted Nik felt often.

"Can I help you, Niklaus?" Elijah asked in a tense voice.

Lyn looked at Klaus and gave him a small smile that he returned quickly. "No, I suppose not," Klaus admitted.

"Then go behead someone or something like that," Lyn protested. "You can start with Damon,"

Elijah gave a small smile of amusement and Klaus let out a huff of genuine amusement. "If you insist, Lyn, I suppose I could make that work,"
