Lyn was at her limit with these damned dagger effects.

She had not always had a lot of endurance, but, when she turned ten, her dad started taking the kids on hikes whenever they went to the lake house. Initially, as would be expected of any stubborn ten year old, Lyn had pouted and refused to go. But it could not be said that Grayson Gilbert would give up when the odds were against him. He had a way of getting what he wanted even when it didn't seem possible. That had been the first time Lyn had lost a debate.

Then, once she had gotten good at hiking up the ridiculously long paths near Dunham Lake, her dad had started making her run them. It wasn't mandatory or forced by any means, but he had always pushed her to give her all into everything. Her dad had also had an annoying skill at using reverse psychology on her. Proving people wrong was fun until your dad bet you that you could not run three miles uphill. At that point, Lyn had cursed out her pridefulness.

The moral of the story was that Lyn had good endurance when it came to hiking. But now, thanks to a dagger that, despite causing a throbbing ache in her chest, was a real pain in her ass, she was practically gasping for breath.

They had been hiking up a trail of the smoky mountains in order to find the werewolf pack for a few hours now. Their pace was rather slow, all things considered, but it had still been far too long. Klaus had been busy taunting Stefan about the fact that he had Ray slung over his shoulder and Stefan had been busy glaring at Klaus the entire hike.

"You okay?" Klaus asked, continuing his taunting. "Is Ray getting heavy?"

"I'm fine," Stefan answered shortly.

"You sure about that? You know, we've been walking for quite some time now. If you need some water or a little sit down..." Klaus smirked at his own words while he stared at Stefan.

Whatever scathing remark Stefan was surely about to make in response was cut off by Lyn's gasping. Both men turned to the doppelganger with equally concerned looks. "I can't... I can't." Lyn panted.

Stefan looked as if he was about to let Ray fall to the ground when Klaus approached Lyn. "Now, you definitely need a sit down," His voice didn't lose its teasing tone, but, even in her exhausted state, Lyn could hear the wariness in his voice.

"What I need," Lyn bit out, "Is for you to pull that stupid dagger out of Elijah's chest before I keel over."

Klaus sighed. "Or... option B." He declared and then, with no warning, hefted Lyn onto his back. She gave a sharp intake at the shock of now partaking in the first piggyback ride she'd had since she was four. But then she resigned to her fate.

"Stubborn ass," She grumbled.

They only continued walking for a few minutes longer before they arrived at the werewolf camp they had been directed to. As they were about to enter the wolves' sight, Klaus gently eased Lyn off of his back and back onto her feet.
