"shin and i have really missed having you around every week, dear. you're looking even more beautiful than when my old eyes last saw you!"

yumie couldn't help but coo, eagerly leading y/n inside after a few months of her absence. she basked in the comfort and familiarity of yumie and kita's home. golden sunlight peering through curtains, fresh steam rising from a porcelain teacup, the raspy sound of a jazz vinyl record flowing within the space.

"oh please, you're practically glowing, yumie. and i've missed being here too."

"how are your mother and ichika doing? i know you saw them earlier."

"they're busy, they had to leave for the studio right after we had lunch. they wish they could've made it, though."

yumie and y/n chatted for a bit, and soon enough, atsumu, osamu, suna, and akagi had arrived to help set up the small birthday surprise. aran was in charge of keeping kita out and occupied before bringing him home in about an hour.

"samu, you seriously made all of this? the cake looks straight out of pinterest.." y/n marveled at all the food osamu had cooked and brought, especially the cake. it was simple; vanilla buttercream topped with blueberries, but equally adorable and totally kita's minimalistic style. atsumu scoffed from his corner (he was given balloon duty).

"that's cause it is. he copied one of the cakes out of the 50 you saved to our pinterest board, ya aesthetic freak."

"he still did more than you, atsumu," suna commented, hanging up the banner and streamers alongside akagi in the dining room.

"NUH UH! i made sure everyone's outfits were tea today! you're welcome!" a collective groan echoed, before he once more retaliated. "though i guess someone didn't get the memo, hmmm n/n?"

y/n looked down at her current outfit. an old baggy shirt with even baggier sweats. she looked back up, giving the pain in the ass the hardest glare. "yo dumbass, i'm changing before he gets here. also your balloons are too small."

"ha, she called you small."

akagi stepped back from the now decorated wall, turning towards y/n with a curious smile. "so what are you wearing?? something cute that'll make our captain fall over??"

"oooh, or maybe kill him right on the spot?" suna added, throwing an arm over akagi's shoulder as they waited for a good response.

"my mom insisted i wear this dress that she made.." y/n trailed off, smiling softly at how excited her mom was earlier. "also, we have to take a bunch of photos so no messing around and ruining your outfits."

"yes ma'am.."

they were finishing up the decorations when aran had texted that he and kita would be there in around 30 minutes. y/n left to get ready, grabbing her suitcase and bringing it over to kita's room (she'd be staying the night).
