So every year the school makes us do this stupid dance for Sports Day for the parents or something. There's always a stupid song with a stupid song that ALWAYS involves a move that looks like we're ringing a bell. This year the song was Dare by Shakira.
So we had to stand according to our roll number, which was assigned by the Prefects based on where you were standing on the first day. I was in the back with Mason, with the rest of blue house.
One day soon after I met Maya, the girl from 8th Grade who stood right in front of me for the dance. We started a little game where I would ask her about one of the kids from her grade, since I heard so many interesting things about them. Interesting being a relative term. Anyway, after I asked her and she would tell me a controversial story she would in turn ask me.
But her stories were always more interesting than mine. She always hated my grade, which made me laugh because I hate them too. Most of them.
Apparently Mason already knew Maya, and I really started liking talking to Maya. Every year I dread doing that ugly stupid dance because it makes us all look stupid, but knowing I can talk to Maya the whole time made it way better. It helped us create our own inside jokes and funny little quips.
I guess the dance turned out to be a good thing, because if there was no dance, I would've never met Maya. Maya's really nice, and also really mean. I can relate to her in a lot of ways, and she's a great storyteller. My favorite thing to do with Maya is complain. About people, teachers, subjects, school and just life in general.
Also, if I never met Maya then I'd never had met the other 8th Graders that she introduced me to. Sometimes Fate - or God, if you believe in Him, is always watching and always takes you to new people and gives you new enriching experiences.
Also, Maya had a funny tendency of accidentally calling Mason a girl on multiple occasions.
